The annual quarantine of sport-harvested mussels begins May and extends through October 31st. The mussel quarantine happens each year due to dangerous levels of biotoxins that may be present in mussels gathered by the public anywhere on the California coast, including bays, inlets and harbors. (The quarantine applies to only sport-harvested mussels; commercially grown mussels from certified companies are not included in the quarantine). You will be greatly missed

To our smokehouse fans-
We have an important announcement to share with you. Please read in its entirety.

We have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Ruddell’s Smokehouse (store and food truck) effective Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

The historic building at 101 “D” St. will be coming down, and after weighing every possible alternative, we have come to this conclusion.

We want to thank everyone for 20 years of incredible support. Thank you to my dad Jim Ruddell for making this all possible and to my mom Kathleen Ruddell and our loyal crew for keeping the magic alive and the integrity of our product true to Jim’s recipe.

This decision was not made lightly, and we recognize that this is not only a huge change for us but for our community as well. We kindly ask that you do not direct questions to our staff. Please email questions to Kathleen at [email protected].

Please do come and visit us over next few months and enjoy our unique food! Our hours will continue to be Thursday-Sunday 11am-6pm. Please stay tuned for hours as we get closer to our closing date.

Please do share your favorite smokehouse memories with us in the comments or DMs. Once again, thank you for supporting our family and business for two decades. Much love to you all.

With gratitude,

Rose Ruddell
