Last night, a father and daughter were enjoying an early dinner. Unprovoked, another diner decided to verbally accost the daughter about her appearance and perceived lifestyle choices. The father rightfully told the woman to mind her own business. Instead of being a decent human, she doubled down by not only continuing the verbal harassment, but then decided to turn her angst on me when I told her and her husband that they were no longer welcome and needed to leave, right now. She informed me I was “violating her first amendment rights and her freedom of religion” (part of her rant was how Jesus could save this child). Admittedly I lost my cool at that point, and raised my voice, which I should not have done, and that’s on me.
However, I’d like to make a few things CRYSTAL CLEAR. Poké Fresh always has, and always will be, a safe space for ALL people. Regardless of how you’re dressed, the color of your skin, who you choose to love, the language you speak, where you’re from, etc… you will always be welcome here. And more importantly; as long as I own this place; you will feel safe here. Secondly, and this is a common misconception: your first amendment rights protect you against being silenced by the federal government. The second you step foot on private property or into a private business, you’re still technically able to say/do anything you want BUT the business owner has the right to remove you from their business at their discretion. And let me assure you that if you decide to bring intolerance, hatred, or ignorance through my front door, you WILL be removed like the garbage you are. No exceptions.
If you were the DoorDash driver in the lobby waiting on your order, or the other gentleman in line when this all went down, my apologies. I spoke with the father/daughter and they managed to leave with a smile on their faces after everyone cooled off.
I don’t like that I had to make this post, but in 2026 all it takes is one viral post from the aggressor telling her “side of the story” to try and get a business canceled. Poke Fresh ain’t about to be that business. If she decides to hop on Facebook and lie, I’ve got the receipts, and if forced, I’ll be happy to use them.
