Some of the new things God is going to do in your life are not going to be what you’re expecting. He’s going to do it a different way, with different people, in different circumstances. Stay open. Could it be that God is doing a new thing now and you don’t perceive it? He’s opening a door, but you don’t want to go through it because it’s not what you thought it would look like. He’s bringing people across your path who are divine connections, but they’re not what you were expecting. Don’t get set in your ways. The new thing may not look like what you had in mind.

Friends may let you down, but God will always be there for you. When it feels overwhelming: you don’t know how you can raise that child, how you can deal with that sickness, how you can keep your business going. It feels like it’s going to break you. Can I encourage you? Angels are coming. God has not forgotten about you. He knows what you’re dealing with.

Taxpayers of Van Zandt County witnessed a troubling situation unfold in open court following the recent District Attorney election.

Richard Schmidt, who was elected to become the next District Attorney effective January 1, informed the court that current District Attorney Tonda Curry has prohibited him from communicating directly with assistant district attorneys regarding his pending cases. According to Schmidt, all communications must now go through Curry personally and must be made in writing.

Schmidt told the court that he currently has approximately 85 to 90 pending cases that need to be resolved before he takes office. He stated that the restrictions imposed by Curry have effectively brought plea negotiations to a standstill and have interfered with the normal operation of the court system.

During the hearing, Schmidt repeatedly expressed concern that cases which would ordinarily be negotiated and resolved are now facing delays. He argued that the communication restrictions are impacting not only him as an attorney, but also his clients and the taxpayers who expect the justice system to operate efficiently.

The situation became even more noticeable when court proceedings were delayed because Curry was not present in the courtroom and had to be contacted. Schmidt stated on the record that his longtime points of contact within the District Attorney's Office were assistant prosecutors, but that he had been instructed he could no longer communicate with them.

Whether citizens agree with Schmidt's characterization or not, the court record reflects a significant dispute between the outgoing District Attorney and the attorney who was elected to replace her. Taxpayers are left to ask whether political differences are interfering with the efficient administration of justice and whether the focus remains on serving the people of Van Zandt County rather than engaging in post-election conflicts.

The citizens of Van Zandt County deserve a justice system that functions efficiently, communicates effectively, and places the interests of victims, defendants, and taxpayers above political disagreements.

🚨 A NEW JOURNEY BEGINS TODAY 🚨

For years, property owners across Van Zandt County and communities all over Texas have raised the same concerns:

❓ Why are property values increasing so dramatically?
❓ How are appraisals determined?
❓ What rights do property owners actually have?
❓ What happens when you protest your taxes?
❓ What can and cannot be done before the Appraisal Review Board (ARB)?

The truth is, many Texans simply don't know the answers because no one has taken the time to explain the process in a way that everyday people can understand.

That's about to change.

Over the next year, we will be launching a series of educational videos, fact-based reports, interviews, and deep dives into the appraisal and property tax system. We will break down complicated issues into simple, understandable information that every Texas property owner can use.

While this year's protest season is coming to a close, the work is just beginning.

Now is the time to learn.
Now is the time to prepare.
Now is the time to understand your rights before next year's notices arrive.

What we're about to share won't just benefit Van Zandt County. It will help property owners across the entire State of Texas.

MISSION STATEMENT

Taxed Out of Texas exists to educate, inform, and empower Texans about property taxes, government accountability, and the policies that directly impact homeowners, farmers, ranchers, retirees, small business owners, and working families across our state.

Founded by the team behind BBQ And A Prayer, our mission is rooted in faith, service, community, and a belief that every Texan deserves transparency, accountability, and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

Our mission is not built on personal attacks, political theater, or division. It is built on facts, transparency, education, and meaningful solutions.

We believe lasting change happens when citizens understand how the system works, become engaged in the process, and work together with leaders who are willing to listen and act.

Through research, public records, data analysis, interviews, community engagement, and collaboration with state representatives, state senators, policy experts, and concerned citizens, we are committed to shining a light on the issues affecting taxpayers and advocating for reforms that protect the people of Texas.

We will ask hard questions.

We will seek honest answers.

We will educate the public on their rights.

We will encourage Texans to become active participants in the decisions that shape their communities and their future.

And we will never stop fighting for transparency, accountability, and meaningful reform on behalf of the people of Texas.

The goal is simple:

To ensure that every Texan has a voice, every taxpayer has access to the truth, and every public official remains accountable to the people they serve.

Because real change does not come from anger.

Real change comes when informed citizens stand together, demand accountability, and work through the process to create a better Texas for future generations.

As long as there is work to be done, we will continue the mission. We will stand with the people, speak the truth, and fight to the very end for a stronger, more transparent, and more accountable Texas.

Taxed Out of Texas.

Let's Talk About It.

Maybe today you’re fighting being chosen. You know God is calling you, but you’re a stranger. You weren’t raised in this. You don’t look like you fit. You have weaknesses. You’ve made mistakes. The truth is, we were all strangers. We may look like we have it together, but we’ve all fallen short. This is the beauty of our God. While we were yet strangers, while we were still far off, God in His great mercy chose us. He didn’t choose you based on your performance; He chose you based on His love. Who knows where God will take you if you’ll simply answer the call.

PS
I’d like to give a very special welcome to Pastor James D. Mullins from Indiana!

Pastor Mullins recently made the trip all the way from Indiana to visit with me and personally offer his congratulations. He has also been following our page and the work we've been doing here in Van Zandt County.

It’s truly humbling to see people from across the country paying attention to what's happening in our community and standing with us.

Please join me in giving Pastor James D. Mullins a warm Texas welcome and making him feel like part of the family! We’re honored to have you here, Pastor. God bless you, and thank you for your friendship, support, and encouragement.

Safe travels back home, my friend. May God watch over you, protect you on your journey, and bless you every mile of the way.

To those who have talked about me, doubted me, criticized me, or wished for my failure, I want to sincerely thank you.

Not because the negativity was deserved, but because it taught me valuable lessons about strength, resilience, and character.

Life has shown me that not everyone will understand your journey, agree with your choices, or support your goals. And that's okay.

I've learned that my worth isn't determined by rumors, opinions, or the words of others. It's determined by how I treat people, how I carry myself, and how I respond when faced with adversity.

I choose respect over resentment, grace over bitterness, and peace over conflict.

One thing I've learned is that truth has a way of revealing itself over time. No amount of criticism, gossip, or personal attacks can stop what is coming when people begin paying attention and asking questions for themselves.

Whether some people like it or not, change is coming. Not because of me, but because change is inevitable when people decide they want better, expect more, and refuse to settle for the way things have always been.

I genuinely wish every one of you success, happiness, and blessings in your life. Holding onto anger only weighs a person down, and I'm focused on moving forward.

At the end of the day, I know who I am, my family knows who I am, and God knows who I am. That's enough for me.

The future belongs to those willing to stand through the storms, endure the criticism, and keep moving forward when others try to hold them back.

May God bless you all.

You can’t dwell on your doubts. God is supernatural and has the ability to do the impossible. Often, the doubting voices are the loudest. However, if you listen to the voice of faith God will move mountains. God is going to do things that go beyond reasoning and logic. The key is to never doubt what God can do. God’s mighty power is greater than anything trying to stop you.

🚨 TEXAS JUST SENT A MESSAGE TO OVER 130 CITIES — AND EVERY PROPERTY OWNER SHOULD BE PAYING ATTENTION 🚨

For years, Texans have watched their property values climb, their tax bills increase, and their concerns get pushed aside.

Now, the State of Texas is taking action.

Attorney General Ken Paxton has notified more than 130 cities across Texas that they cannot increase property taxes above the "No New Revenue" rate because they allegedly failed to comply with state financial transparency laws.

Think about that for a minute.

The State is essentially saying that if local governments want more of your hard-earned money, they must first be transparent with the people they serve.

That should be common sense.

This isn't just happening somewhere else. Cities right here in East Texas, including Tool, Eustace, Kerens, Yantis, and others, have been included on the list.

Why does this matter?

Because for years, many Texans have felt like they were being asked to pay more and more while receiving fewer answers. Property taxes continue to rise. Homeowners, retirees, farmers, ranchers, and small business owners continue to feel the pressure.

The question isn't whether Texans are frustrated.

The question is whether local governments are being held accountable.

The new law ties transparency directly to taxing authority. If a city cannot meet basic financial reporting requirements, the State says it should not have the ability to raise taxes beyond the level needed to generate the same revenue as the previous year.

That's a major shift.

As many of you know, property taxes have become one of the biggest concerns I hear about throughout Van Zandt County and across Texas. Families are worried about staying in homes they've owned for decades. Seniors on fixed incomes are struggling to keep up. Landowners are watching valuations skyrocket year after year.

This is why we're launching our property tax education series.

Over the coming months, we're going to break down:

✅ How appraisals work

✅ How to protest your property taxes

✅ What evidence you should gather

✅ What happens at an ARB hearing

✅ Your rights as a property owner

✅ What local governments can and cannot do

✅ How transparency impacts your tax bill

Knowledge is power.

The more informed we are, the better equipped we are to protect our homes, our land, our businesses, and our future.

This is only the beginning.

Follow this page, turn on notifications, and share this post. The information we're about to release could help property owners not only here in Van Zandt County, but across the entire State of Texas.

The conversation about property taxes is changing.

And we're going to be right in the middle of it.

Stay tuned. Much more is coming.

When I say God’s going to send an angel, sometimes God will use people as an angel. The Scripture says, “Many have entertained angels unaware.” That friend who encouraged you, that neighbor who said the right thing at the right time, that stranger who showed up right when you needed them. What you may not have known is that they carried out the assignment of an angel. They became a messenger of God.

🚨 SOMETHING BIG IS COMING MONDAY 6:00pm🚨

For months, I've been digging.

Reading documents.
Following paper trails.
Asking questions.
Looking at things that most people never get the opportunity to see.

What I found led me down a road I never expected.

On Monday, I will begin sharing what I've uncovered.

No rumors.
No hearsay.
No anonymous sources.

Just facts, documents, and information that every citizen deserves the opportunity to review for themselves.

Some people will be uncomfortable.

Some people will have questions.

And some people may finally understand why certain things have happened the way they have.

This is bigger than politics.

This is bigger than personalities.

This is about something that affects nearly every man, woman, business owner, homeowner, farmer, rancher, and taxpayer in our community.

Monday is only the beginning.

Make sure your notifications are turned on.

Tag your friends.

Because once this conversation starts, everyone is going to want to know what's next.

See you Monday.

No one enjoys going through the wilderness, but something happens in the desert. God is getting you prepared to come out in the power of the Spirit. Some things can only take place in the dry season: the loss, the disappointment, the bad break. You may find yourself there now. You’re facing pressure that you’ve never faced. It feels like you’re at a breaking point. Can I encourage you? Angels are coming. This is not a surprise to God. He led you into the wilderness. He doesn’t leave you out there alone. He knows the pressure. He knows the struggle, the loss, the pain, what didn’t work out, how it’s been so long. That burden is about to lighten. You’re going to feel a strength that you can’t explain. You’re not only going to come out, but you’re going to come out stronger, with greater confidence, greater courage, greater ability, greater faith.

🚨 THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN 🚨

For years, the people of Van Zandt County have watched the controversy, the headlines, the questions, the division, and the allegations surrounding illegal gambling and selective enforcement.

Yesterday, the voters sent a message loud and clear:
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

This election was bigger than politics.
It was about accountability.
It was about trust.
It was about restoring integrity back into our justice system.

The old guard was voted out because the people are tired of feeling ignored while the same problems continued year after year.

Now begins a new chapter for Van Zandt County.
A chapter where the law applies equally.
A chapter where transparency matters.
A chapter where the people finally feel heard again.

The citizens stood together.
The citizens voted.
And the citizens made history.

Game over.
Time to clean house.

🗳️ Van Zandt County has spoken.

Sometimes, we find ourselves in the wilderness. We know we have God’s favor, we know He’s put big things in our hearts, but we’re in a dry season. We’re not seeing any growth, doors aren’t opening, the opposition is stronger than ever. You could get discouraged, give up, complain. This is when you have to dig down deep and say, “God, I trust You. I know I’m not in this desert by accident. You’ve led me here. You won’t take me someplace where You won’t sustain me. So Lord, I thank You for the strength, the peace, the favor, the courage to stand strong and outlast this test.” If you’ll have the right attitude, you’ll come out of the dry place and into an abundant place.

You may be in a dry place. You don’t see how you can keep going. You’re fighting the good fight, but you’re suffering from battle fatigue. It’s been so long. It feels like it’s too much. God sees what’s happening. You didn’t go into that dry place by accident. That wilderness was not easy, but you’ve passed the test. You’ve stayed faithful. You didn’t give up. You didn’t quit believing. God’s about to send angels to strengthen you, to breathe new life, fresh vision, encouragement. You’re not just going to come out of the desert barely making it. ⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY WARNING — FM 751 / Bridge at Lake Tawakoni ⚠️

While fishing today, I personally took these photographs of what appears to be significant erosion and damage underneath portions of the FM 751 / Bridge area at Lake Tawakoni.

Out of concern for public safety, I have already notified Texas State Senator Bob Hall, and he is currently working to get in contact with the head of TxDOT regarding this situation.

Until this can be fully inspected and addressed, I encourage everyone traveling this area to use extreme caution while driving across the bridge — especially with heavy traffic, boats, trailers, and large vehicles.

The safety of our families, children, and community should always come first.

I am not an engineer, and I cannot officially determine the structural integrity of the bridge, but what I witnessed today was concerning enough that the proper authorities need to inspect it immediately.

Please share this post so others traveling through the area are aware and can use caution.

Sometimes we can let what others are doing—how society is acting, the division, the dysfunction around us—cause us to become angry and bitter, where we mishandle what God has given us. You can’t make everyone do what’s right. You can’t make the culture live according to God’s Word. Yes, we’re going to be bright lights and do what we can, but don’t throw down what God has entrusted you with because of all the chaos around you. Protect your gift, protect your calling, protect your family, protect your integrity, protect your holiness, protect your peace. It's easy to mishandle God’s gifts, live frustrated, angry, mad at people, and divisive. That’s the trick of the enemy to try to get you to disregard what God has given you.

If you look back, some of the things you face today, a few years ago, would have caused you to live worried, upset. Now, it’s no big deal. You know God is fighting your battles. You know no weapon formed against you will prosper. You know that this, too, shall pass. Why is that? You’re growing. You’ve gotten stronger. Your faith has increased. Your expectancy is greater. Your trust is at a new level. The things you’ve been through weren’t fun. You were uncomfortable, but it wasn’t God just making you suffer. They deposited something on the inside. Everything you’ve been through was necessary for where God is taking you.

So it looks like Brandon Barton Precinct 4 commissioner is striking deals at the 11th hour with the City of Van after being in talks for months according to Barton.

Yesterday’s Commissioners Court agenda included Item 10:

“Discuss and consider Interlocal Agreement with City of Van regarding collaborative road maintenance during FY2027.”

On its face, people may think this sounds harmless. But if Precinct 4 county resources, county materials, and county road budgets are being used to overlay a CITY street in Van, taxpayers should be asking some serious questions.

Where does this stop?

If the City of Van receives county-funded road work through precinct resources, what happens when Canton asks? Wills Point? Grand Saline? Edgewood? Every city/county resident pays their 10 cent road tax. Will every city now receive a portion of county road budgets?

County precinct budgets exist to maintain county roads. Those dollars are limited. Every load of material, every hour of labor, and every piece of equipment directed somewhere else is time and money not being spent on county roads serving rural taxpayers.

Questions that deserve answers:

• What county materials are being used?
• What is the total cost in labor, equipment, and materials?
• What policy determines who receives these services?
• Will this same opportunity be available countywide? (That’s a fail)

Voters deserve transparency and consistency. Once precedent is created, it becomes difficult to explain why one city gets county resources and another does not.

Wonder if it’s just a coincidence that Barton is making this deal with county funds while he’s losing support all over Precinct 4 to Dan Morrow… 🤔
