Where did everyone in New York go?
The end of summer makes the city feel a little strange.
Your regular coffee shop is quieter. Your favorite restaurant has open tables. Even the neighborhood streets feel emptier than usual.
People are taking their last trips before school starts. Some are moving in or out of the city. Others are exploring different neighborhoods before the cold weather keeps everyone close to home. Add in the unpredictable weather, and nobody knows whether to go out or stay inside.
But this is also when your neighborhood businesses need you most.
That one coffee, breakfast or dinner may feel small to you, but it helps your favorite local spot survive the slow weeks and remain part of the neighborhood.
So if you are stuck in New York this weekend, don’t just stay home.
Take a walk. Visit your local café. Try that restaurant you keep passing. Invite a friend and explore a different neighborhood.
