5 years ago -May 3rd 2021- we opened our doors in Carroll Gardens.
Many are the images, the thoughts, the vibes that brought us to this point and that positioned SOCIALE to play a role in this tough industry for the years to come.
The first two pictures represent the hardest moments of the journey that brought us to open. In the middle of the pandemic; the project stalling; zero money; no hope; Meg woke up, took a windex and told me: “I’m gonna go clean the glasses because I don’t want the neighbors to look at our dirty glasses”. The second is after receiving and installing the appliances (I cried). Then right after the lockdown some hope was coming back to our souls; the project resumed, the gas was hooked up after waiting for more than a year. Following a bunch of pictures of our people; the ones than never stopped believing in us; the ones that gave us the strength to continue even if from so far away; my best friends in Brooklyn (we had to triple beer kegs orders during their visit); Pablo (who is the engine behind our success); our family and friends; Paula from Il Gattopardo who taught us everything she could. Then some other construction pics: the wonderful wood we used throughout the whole space: bar counter; tables… the shiny kitchen project finalized … the store front before our landlord gut renovated it. Megh parents with us in Bologna before opening; strategizing, helping us figuring out the mess we were trying to live through. And finally the storefront after our renovation; we think it’s so gorgeous and timeless. Last pictures are not super business related but if we are who we are; and can give what we give everyday to our guests is also (and mostly) because of these folks: my family having lunch in our apartment in Brooklyn; my sister in our happy place (the house we rent every year in Sardegna … and where this summer I’ll marry my best friend)… me, Fabio and my second mom Linda having fun in Italy a month ago … and finally our future: Hector and Angie who are projecting us to where we want to be in the food department. And on top of this all: our investors; workers; landlord; our regulars: it takes a village. But we have the village !
