The Story behind the Fish

Shane Lucas started Fishetarian out of a passion for fishing, an avid fisherman for over 30 years, he is hopelessly addicted to the sport. His parents Jim and Peggy Lucas purchased the Lucas Wharf fish dock in 1973 and opened the Lucas Wharf restaurant 25 + years ago. For years, his Dad, Uncle and Grandfather ran the vessel “The Silver Seas” which trawled for ground fish and pink shrimp off the California North Coast. His Parents taught him everything they know about fishing, the seafood business, and about serving quality, delicious food. Shane is also in the wholesale fish business and has sold fish for over 20years, so you can definitely call him a Seafood Expert! Or you can just call him a “Fish Monger.” Either way, only the finest fish makes it into the case at the new Fishetarian Fish Market in Bodega Bay, CA. Shane hand selects the daily catch each day, so come on out and pick some up to share with your friends and family!

We were recently included in two of Heather Irwin’s roundups of the best outdoor dining spots in Sonoma County, with a special shoutout to our newly restored fish house and the added waterfront seating along the dock.

“Casual cove-side seating has always been part of the appeal at one of Bodega Bay’s favorite fish and chips spots,” Heather writes, highlighting the new heated indoor seating, extra patio space, and plenty of room to linger over fish tacos, crab cakes, and gluten-free chowder.

FIVE years in a row?! 🏆🌊

We are beyond honored to be voted Best Eats on the Coast in the Press Democrat’s Best of Sonoma County Readers’ Choice Awards for the 5th year in a row, and this year, for the first time ever, Best Seafood Restaurant!

Thank you to our Fishetarian community. To those of you who have been coming to us for over a decade, those who gave us a try for the first time this year, and every single person who has taken a chance on us even when the parking lot is absolutely wild. Your love, patience, support, and excitement continue to blow us away.

Thank you to our local partners, our growing team of dedicated employees, and all the rad folks who make this coastline and county what it is. The outpouring of love fills all our cups and keeps us giving it 100 on every level, so you can have a bummer-free day at the most beautiful coast.

We’re in a special “whale-safe” pop-up crab window along the Northern California coast. During this time, fishermen use innovative pop-up (ropeless) gear that protects migrating whales while still allowing access to fresh, local Dungeness crab.
