Catch the world's largest steam locomotive in operation, in action as it comes to the area this week.

The massive locomotive — 132 feet long and weighing 1.2 million pounds — will pass by on Friday.

The Union Pacific Big Boy is a legendary class of 25 massive steam locomotives built in the 1940s to haul heavy freight over steep mountain ranges in the American West.
Weighing 1.2 million pounds and stretching 132 feet long, they remain the largest and most powerful operating steam locomotives in the world.

The locomotive is scheduled to run along the Schuylkill route. You can get incredible views of the train passing along the river or photograph it from the neighboring Cynwyd Heritage Trail and the Manayunk Bridge!
