here's our plan for the weekend, markets & cafe!

Athens Farmers Market 🌞 has been cancelled for tomorrow (10/11) & we are going to sit out on Freedom Farmers Market in ATL (10/11)

as of now, we are planning to be at Grant Park Market in ATL on sunday (10/12)

cafe is planning to be open regular hours, 9a-5p both sat & sun! yall come thru, watch the rain from our big ahhh windows, sip on a lil booootz ya know.

The absolutely delicious Red Caturra from father / son duo, Olgar Ortega Bolaños and Esnaider Ortega Gomez, is back for an eighth season! Though we’ve featured this coffee in the past under their family name (Familia Ortega Gomez), Esnaider requested we change the title this year to honor the hard work of his father - whose name has never before been featured internationally on a retail bag.

The Monkaaba producer group is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It’s continually an inspiration to us, and we’re honored to serve coffees from Esanider, Olgar, and Didier, year after year. They’ve created a fully autonomous collective of coffee growers who are working together, sharing knowledge, and developing the agency necessary to navigate the world of specialty coffee on their own.

Coffees from Olgar Ortega are consistently classic and delicious. This lot in particular is a near-ideal representation of coffee from the Huila region. We’re tasting: cherry, raspberry, red grape, apple juice, vanilla, nougat, sugarcane, caramel, coca cola, sweet black tea, baking spices.

Our final Brazilian offering of the year is from a producer that’s new to us, but he’s a key member of the Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF) story and family. Francisco Barretto grew up on the FAF farm and managed coffee production throughout the 1980s and 90s until his sister, Silvia, inherited the property around 2002.

He recently purchased a 50 hectare plot of land in 2021 - Sitio Sassafras - where he’s now producing some of the best coffees in the FAF network thanks to detailed farm management techniques and natural ecological factors. In addition to the preservation of native forest (including Sassafras trees!), intentional intercropping, and protection of multiple water springs, the property sits on one of the highest altitudes of the area at around 1300 - 1500 meters above sea level.

This selection of Catucai 2SL is an exemplary representation of coffee from the Vale de Grama area. The stereotypical nutty, chocolatey Brazilian profile is present here, but presented with a lot of clarity and distinct fruit flavors. We’re tasting: fig, black plum, apple butter, almond butter, nougat, honey, tootsie roll, white chocolate / macadamia nut cookie.

The release of Daannisa marks the return of the first coffee we ever purchased from Ture Waji seven years ago! This is the third time it’s graced our menu, and we’re thrilled to have this one back to continue showcasing the expert natural processing by the Sookoo team.

Daannisa is a collective of 30 growers living in the sub-kebele (similar to a neighborhood) of the same name. Coffees are grown at a stunning 2000+ masl, selectively picked, and delivered to Sookoo’s centralized station.

As we’ve come to expect from coffees processed here, Daannisa presents intense fruit flavors with remarkable clarity. The usual silky body, deep sweetness, and juicy acidity are all present, but the expression of fruit flavor is where you’ll notice key differences in comparison to other naturals - Daannisa’s vibe consistently leans more tropical and stone fruits. We’re tasting: mango, orange, peach, cherry, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet black tea, milk chocolate.
