🥁🥁🥁 TODAY IS THE DAY WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR FOX VALLEY SCIENCE SOCIETY! 🔬🍻
In case you haven’t heard or your brain has simply refused to acknowledge the passage of time the great Steve Ackerman is joining us to talk about the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald and how weather forecasting has progressed since. 🌊⛈️🛰️
🛋️ Haven’t called dibs on a cozy seat yet? It’s not too late!
Our comfiest chairs and sofas are up for auction, so bid on your favorite spot and we’ll have it reserved for you during the presentation. Because science is great. Science from a comfy couch is even better.

This event is FREE to attend. ❤️
If it’s within your means, we suggest a $5 donation to help support events like this, but there are absolutely no expectations. Life is expensive, budgets are real, and we want you here regardless.
Science is for everyone. 🔬

Want to be extra cozy while you nerd out about weather at Fox Valley Science Society?

Yeah, you do.

Our cozy seats are up for auction! Bid on your favorite couch or chair and claim the comfiest spot in the house for the evening.

And because we know someone will ask: you’re bidding to sit in it, not take it home. 😂 We love our cozy couches too much to let them leave.

🛋️ Place your bid here:

General entry to Fox Valley Science Society is donation-based, because we want these events to stay accessible to everyone. The cozy-seat auction is one of the ways we help make that possible. Funds raised supports educational programming, community events, and keeps our gathering space free or low-cost whenever we can. So you get a ridiculously comfy seat and help keep cool community stuff happening. 🛋️❤️

Come out on a school night to hang out with us and enjoy "Preachin' from the Gutter" ft. The Dishonorable Rev. "Sandy Joe" Sandy, Deacon Nick O'Tyne, and Tam Masters.

Expect:
Diverse and delish drink options, laid back vibes, and gutter-jazz straight from the heart of Illinois, this show brings you two sinners and a muppet preaching the ups and downs of life as they know it. They'll be singing mostly originals by "Sandy Joe" (they/them) with some favorites of Tam's (he/they) thrown in for good measure. Brace yourself for excessive accordion, trumpet, keys, and kazoo as they take you on a trip from blues and jazz to klezmer and country to bluegrass and Balkan dance and so much more!

If you want a sofa or a comfy chair, we have an auction for you here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/preaching-from-the-gutter-cozy-seating-auction

Auction proceeds help us continue offering our event space at little or no cost to LGBTQ+ organizations, mutual aid efforts, educational programming, local artists, and other community events that make the Fox Valley a more connected, creative, and welcoming place.
You'll notice Compassionate Home Health Care as the listed organization; they are our non-profit fiscal sponsor! As a bonus, your winning bid is tax-deductible.

🌊⛈️ Reminder: Fox Valley Science Society is just a couple days away!

Shipwrecks, satellites, storms, and science? Yup. 🛰️🔬

This month’s discussion is brought to you by Steve Ackerman, professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and expert in satellite meteorology. We’ll be diving into the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald and the fascinating science behind weather forecasting.

This event is free to attend, but donations are always appreciated! We suggest $5 if it’s within your means, but there’s absolutely no expectation. We get it, life is chaotic, budgets are real, and science should be accessible. Give what you can, participate how you can, and come get nerdy with us. 🔬❤️

🛋️ Want a cozy seat for the presentation?
Our comfiest chairs and sofas are up for auction! Bid on your favorite spot and, if you win, we’ll have it reserved and waiting for you. No awkward hovering near the good chair required.

Bidding closes at 5pm the day of the presentation.

Come for the science. Bid for the couch. Stay because weather is significantly more interesting when discussed at a bar. 🍻

Do you forget every song you've ever known under pressure to choose a song to sing?

Pick out your song this afternoon for karaoke night and submit your request ahead of time. We'll use advance requests to help get the queue rolling—but don't worry, walk-up requests are always welcome!

Advance requests don't reserve a specific performance time. Singers must be present when their name comes up, and we'll keep the rotation moving so everyone gets a chance.

You can arrive already knowing "I'm doing Total Eclipse of the Heart" instead of standing at the host table scrolling through 40,000 songs instead of having fun.
