Sometimes God changes your plans in ways you never expected.
Last November, I walked away from a career I’d spent 10 years building.
It wasn’t because I didn’t love what I did. It was because I was tired. I was missing birthdays, dinners, weekends, and the everyday moments that matter most. Some nights I didn’t get home until 1:00 a.m. My days off were often spent in an empty house.
And if you know me, you know I’m not made for an empty house.
We’ve raised six amazing kids there, and now we’ve been blessed with eleven grandchildren. Our home has always been filled with laughter, noise, and people I love. I realized I was missing too much of it.
Then one day, completely out of the blue, my husband, Matt, came home and said he and David Deville had found a cute little ice cream shop in Amite… and we were buying it.
I honestly thought he was joking.
The next week we were signing papers.
I quit my job, walked away from a career and a steady salary, and prayed that God would take care of the rest.
Eight months later, I can honestly say He has.
Sugar Scoops has become so much more than an ice cream shop. It’s become a place where we’ve met the sweetest families, made incredible friends, and built relationships with people who truly feel like family. Amite welcomed us with open arms, and I will never stop being grateful for this community.
One of the biggest blessings has been getting to do life with the people I love.
Yesterday I spent the day at the shop with Kanani and Cash, and we had the best time. Violet always keeps us laughing when she’s here too. We love visits from all of our grandchildren and family, and Saturdays usually mean I get to spend the day with Matt. Every now and then you’ll even catch our youngest son, Matthew, helping out behind the counter.
Those are the moments I dreamed about.
To David and Laura Murphy Deville—thank you for believing in me and giving us this opportunity. Your faith in us helped make this dream possible.
And to my husband, Matt… thank you for believing in a dream that started as quiet conversations between the two of us. Thank you for taking the leap with me and building this life together.
Most of all, thank You, God, for Your faithfulness. Every day I’m reminded that sometimes the biggest blessings begin with the scariest decisions.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has supported Sugar Scoops. Every scoop, every smile, every conversation has been part of this journey, and I’m so grateful you’re all a part of our story. ❤️🍦
