I give this update With the heaviest of heart. Danielle Sue Lawrence has passed away. My ever loving wife of 11 years, our children's compassionate mother, my best friend, has lost her battle with cancer.
Danielle is finally at peace and out of the tremendous amount of pain she's been suffering from for the last few years. Her cancer quickly spread and was very aggressive. Only two weeks ago we were planing for spring, but the world had other plans for her beautiful soul.
Our team of dr.s have tried all they could, but in the end it was out of our hands. Danielle was a fighter, thru and thru. Never once did she let this terrible disease become her identity. Through all her ups and downs, she was always the first to smile and light up the room. She would never let you see the pain behind her eyes, it just wasn't in her nature.
Hug a loved one extra tight for her. Remember her beautiful smile. Her wonderful laugh. Most importantly Remember her compassionate and loving heart. I know I will.
With great sadness,
John Lawrence

Update from John and Danielle
Hi everyone,
We have some news to share! Danielle was discharged on Saturday, the 30th, and a few hours later, Grandma and Grandpa brought the kids down to see us. They stayed until this morning, and we spent the weekend together in our apartment, watching movies and playing dominoes. It was exactly what we needed, a chance to step away from the hospital and enjoy some much needed family time. Even though it was a short visit, we’re so grateful they were able to be here with us.
Danielle started her clinical trial today with a small procedure. The plan was to begin treatment tomorrow, but we just learned the trial drug won’t arrive until Wednesday. Thankfully, it’s only a short delay, and we remain optimistic about the path ahead. We’ll be here for a few more weeks but are looking forward to being one step closer to coming home.
We can’t thank you enough for following Danielle’s journey, checking in on us, and offering your help and support. Every act of kindness means the world to us, and we want you to know it never goes unnoticed.
With gratitude,
John and Danielle Lawrence

An update on Danielle, 11/25/24
Hello everyone, John here. It has been a few weeks now since we came down for Danielle’s clinical trial appointment. Danielle is signed up for the trial and she completed all the pre-trial screening. The trial is scheduled to begin the first week of December.
The appointment we came to U of M for was only supposed to be a few hours, but unfortunately I took Danielle directly to the emergency room at U of M from the appointment by doctor’s order. She has been admitted since 11/11, due to the intensity of the pain. We know this is the best place for her to be in this situation, and she has undergone a few treatments for the pain already with a few more in the works. Procedures she could only have gotten at U of M. Some of which have worked and some of which haven’t. Progress has been slow but it is going in the right direction.
For the time being we don’t know how long we will be in Ann Arbor. I had been staying at a Holiday Inn for the last few weeks close to the hospital, and will now be staying in an apartment for the foreseeable future. The apartment is pet friendly so I can bring Stewart our, puppy, for the next several weeks. The kids are being well taken care of by Grandma and Grandpa, while Jess has been going above and beyond for our dogs and the house. I came home this weekend to see the kids and pack for a longer stay and am heading back soon.
Our family has been there for us every at unexpected turn and have moved mountains to make sure we can focus on getting the care Danielle needs. We are incredibly grateful.
We are incredibly grateful to all of you following Danielle’s story. It takes a village, and our village is strong.
John Lawrence

Hello to everyone following Danielle and our family’s journey. The past few months have been challenging, to say the least. Since August, Danielle has been through so much, and we wanted to provide an update.

In June, we learned that Danielle's Ewing's Sarcoma had recurred, and a biopsy during her hospitalization in August confirmed the diagnosis. Since then, we’ve been in a sort of medical limbo, with no treatments performed yet on the cancer itself; instead, we were advised to “watch and wait.” Throughout this, the Alpena Cancer Center has gone above and beyond, supporting us in every way they could—truly an amazing group of people.

In August, Henry Ford Hospital performed two procedures to help with the intense neuropathic pain Danielle was experiencing. Both procedures offered temporary relief, but the road has been painful and difficult since then. The tumor affects her nervous system and hip bone, causing pain that is often unbearable. Despite this, Danielle remains a warrior, hiding her pain as best she can. Unfortunately, she experiences “flare-ups” requiring hospitalization every few weeks.

After her latest hospitalization, we were contacted by a new specialist at the University of Michigan, who informed us of a clinical trial that Danielle is eligible for. She will be one of only 56 people in the country to participate in this treatment. We’ll be traveling to Ann Arbor for some preliminary tests and check-ups this week, with the chemotherapy trial expected to begin in the next few weeks. For the foreseeable future, we’ll be making regular trips to Ann Arbor for her care.

While the thought of a clinical trial is daunting, this particular trial has shown promising results with Ewing’s Sarcoma and other solid tumors. We’re both relieved and hopeful to finally have a treatment plan in place—one that targets the cancer, not just the pain. If successful, this trial could not only help Danielle but also pave the way for others facing similar battles in the future.

Danielle is doing everything she can to stay positive, despite the pain, fear, and doubt that have filled her daily life for months. Through it all, she has been an incredible mother to our children and a wonderful partner to me. Sixteen years ago, I never imagined I was falling in love with the strongest person I would ever meet.

Thank you to each and every one of you who has kept us in your thoughts and supported us along the way. We never imagined we’d be in this situation, but having this community behind us has been an incredible mental and emotional support.

Love, JC, Danielle, the kids, and our entire family!
Thanks

Hello! My name is Jessica Hatch, and I am starting this GoFundMe to benefit Danielle Lawrence. Danielle is my sister-in-law, and many of you know her, and my brother JC, from when we owned Take 5 Deli in Alpena, Michigan.

Danielle and JC have two beautiful young kids, John Matthew, and Charlotte Rose, and sadly, even thought we thought this rollercoaster of cancer was over, it's not. We have started this GoFundMe to help them raise funds during this medical crisis.

We also have a Venmo at: Johnlaw698911
All donations are GREATLY appreciated. Now onto the story of what’s going on.

Danielle was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma as a child, and she beat Cancer around 11 years old. It came back as an adult, and for the past almost 2 years, she battled, and in April of 2024, we thought she had won. All the scans showed she was cancer free, and the entire family started to celebrate! Those celebrations were short lived, as about 1 month later, he pain had returned. We had high hopes that it wasn't from cancer, but sadly, our fears have been realized, and her cancer has returned.

She has been in and out of the hospital for the past few weeks, trying to control the amount of pain she is in, and trying to figure out the next steps and the next plan of action. As of right now, I don't have much information, other then to say, as of today, August 25th, 2024, she has been transported back down to Henry Ford Hospital. We will post updates as we can, and we know this time around things could be more difficult then before.

During this time, my brother is trying to stay close to her, near the hospital (or sleeping at the hospital when he has to). They are just over 4 hours away from home. My parents are doing their best to take care of their kids, and I am helping with the dog, Sadie and Mr. Stewart. This is going to be a very long road, and like most people know, a medical crisis can put a massive amount of strain on a family. If you can donate, it’s greatly appreciated. And if you cannot, sharing this Gofundme is just as helpful. The more people her story reaches, the better.

We also have a Venmo at: Johnlaw698911

The ENTIRE family thanks you for your support, your love, your prayers, and your kind words. I will do my best to update this GofundMe as we find out more. We are doing our best to stay positive, and stay strong. Thank you for reading this, and thank you for helping. We appreciate you!

"No evidence of disease" my Oncologist confirmed earlier this week.
❗❗❗
We did it.
I am cancer free. 😭
I beat cancer, again. 🙌🏻
I am a 2x cancer survivor. 🎗️

I can't believe I have the privilege of saying those words. I am SO grateful I get to say those words.

I cannot express how much my family and I have appreciated your sympathy, generosity, and prayers.
Thank you to everyone who helped us along the way; a lot of you saw me at my worst and I will be forever grateful for the care you gave me.
I owe everything to my family; I couldn't have made it through the past year without their endless support and positivity. Thank you for being such a constant during one of the most chaotic years yet. Having such a strong, positive, support system allowed me to heal at my own pace while knowing everything else was taken care of. I love you guys!

Hi friends! It's been a while since we have shared an update on Danielle. We are happy to share some great news!! 💛 https://gofund.me/e3e3ab1b

"Finally, an end in sight! 🙌🏼 I'm SO happy to share with you all that I only have❗1❗more round of chemo before a well deserved break!!! 🥳😭🤩

Earlier this week, I had my last round of chemo at the Alpena Cancer Center, and got to ring The Bell!! 😁😭
We cannot thank the doctors and staff at the Cancer Center enough! You are a great group of people to go through this horrible journey with; thank you for everything.

I would like to take a moment to thank the people who work "behind the scenes", if you will. The people who have been nothing but positive and happy to help, no matter how big or small the ask. The people who have taken care of our children, our dog, and our home. The people who have gone out of their way to make our lives easier. A lot of people don't realize how much work goes into a journey like this, but let me be clear: it's A LOT of work, and John and I could not have survived this past year without our village. ❤️ THANK YOU, WE LOVE YOU ALL.

And my husband. My sweet, selfless husband. Thank YOU for everything. Your strength and compassion is what truly got me through the past year. I couldn't have done this without you and I love you. 😘

As of right now, the cancer is stable and the tumor is slowly shrinking in size which is a positive sign considering the nature of my cancer. Once round 12 of chemo is complete, I will have a scan done and we will discuss our options moving forward. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed. 🤞🏻

I feel incredibly lucky for this "vacation" I'm about to have. Incredibly lucky. 🫶🏻💛"

From The GoFund Me Page, Most recent update:
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you. This is John, reaching out with an update on Danielle's journey.
First, I want to truly thank you all for the overwhelming support and kindness that has surrounded us. Your thoughts, well-wishes, and gestures of support have been a source of comfort and strength during a challenging time.
Danielle's battle with cancer has opened our eyes to the incredible warmth of the community around us. We've experienced moments of difficulty you can't put words to, and it's been your collective kindness that has helped see us through. We're not used to sharing our private lives so openly, but the love and support we've received have inspired us to embrace this newfound sense of connection.
Medical Update:
I'm thrilled to share some encouraging news regarding Danielle's health. The treatments have been showing promising results, and Danielle's resilience has been truly remarkable. Despite the expected challenges, her determination has allowed her moments of joy and normalcy. Overall Danielle is doing great, and uses the good days the best she can.
Danielle has been able to spend quality time playing with the kids and even just shopping in the store is a big step from where we started. These seemingly ordinary activities are significant milestones compared to when we found out she had cancer. Witnessing her strength and the smiles she shares with the kids is a testament to her incredible spirit.
She resumed chemotherapy in October after the completion of radiation, at the Cancer Center in Alpena, alternating every three weeks between there and Henry Ford. While we expected some familiar side effects, such as fatigue, her immune system has presented unforeseen challenges. Battling various infections from pneumonia to sepsis, has led to multiple hospital stays since October. What we were not prepared for is the paralisis she experiences about a week after chemo, or the neurological episode she had a few weeks ago. The tumor decreasing in size results in the rest of her nervous system trying to return to their original positions. That seems to cause her whole nervous system to enter a fight or flight mode causing her body to lock up for a few hours, and is incredibly painful. We are learning to navigate the signs and symptoms together as they present themselves. The medical team is closely monitoring and adjusting the treatment plan, and we remain hopeful for continued progress.
Family Moments:
Since the end of October, I've been at home with Danielle and the kids, providing the support she needs. I have been here to do the things that are harder now, help more with the kids, make sure she can sleep when shes tired or eat what ever sounds good. Despite the challenges, we've managed to create special moments together. John Matthew is in school and doing an amazing job, and we couldn't be more proud. Charlotte is growing in to her own little personality, and eager to help mommy whenever she can. We're taking things in stride, and focusing on adapting to the changes as a family. We took the kids to Aunt Jessica's Halloween celebration, shared Thanksgiving with family, and enjoyed a Christmas concert at John Matthew's school (He was AMAZING). We are grateful that the treatment plan allowed us to be together for these significant holidays.
Your support has made a real difference in our lives, and we want you to know that every act of kindness, no matter how small, has not gone unnoticed. More than once, we have leaned on someone for comfort, something we haven't really done before. You have all been amazing people to us, truly. despite the challenges of this cancer battle, and the challenges of not working, we've managed to create special moments together.. The Alpena EMS, E.R. and Cancer Center have been beyond awesome when we have needed them, they truly have gone above and beyond. As we navigate this journey, your continued thoughts and support mean the world to us.
Wishing you all a joyous and peaceful holiday season.
With gratitude,
John Lawrence

6 weeks of radiation: complete! ✅

Last Friday, with the support of my family and (most of) the Cancer Center staff, I got to ring the bell that signifies a great accomplishment. I am proud to say that I am over halfway through my cancer treatments!

Unfortunately, I am due for more chemotherapy which will rear its ugly head once I have a few scans done to check on the tumor. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed that the tumor continues to respond well to the treatments.🤞🏻

Overall I feel really good! I was able to have a really great summer with my kids, and now I feel ready to finish this fight. Thank you to everyone who has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. Your continued love and support has made this challenging time much easier. Easier to talk about, easier to walk around with a bald head, easier to feel normal.💛

Hi friends,
Some good news for your Sunday afternoon. 💛🎗️
Again, thank you to everyone keeping us in their thoughts and prayers. We know there's a lot of people cheering for Danielle, and we feel your love and appreciate your prayers!

YOU GUYS!!!! My tumor is substantially smaller!!! 🥳😭🙌🏻
Round 5 of chemo is complete and now we will start the radiation process. We are looking at about 6 weeks of radiation, another scan to check the tumor, and then a handful of rounds of chemo to make sure he gone. 👋🏻🖕🏻🙅🏻‍♀️
Overall I feel pretty good. I take advantage of my good days, and stay in bed on my bad days. John and I are so thankful to the many people who lend us a helping hand. We love you all, thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers. 😘
