Smell the Flours answered some tough questions for us about the business, operations, and the future!!
How did Smell the Flours come to life?
I’ve been baking in general for just about my whole life, and I’ve been experimenting with bread for about 6 years now and I really love doing it. Sometimes I get to do it at my day job, but I’d love to share my creations on a bigger scale and with more room for creativity.
What’s a collaboration you would love to happen with your baked goods?
On a small scale I’d love to offer themed flavors as nods to my fellow vendors at future markets but in the grand scheme of things I’d really enjoy to see some of my stuff sold in a coffee shop or small diner someday, even if just as small pop ups.
If only one type of bread existed, what would you want it to be?
That’s a hard one but I think I’d have to say bagels. They’re just capable of being so versatile both in flavor variety and also the types of things you can make with them.
In your opinion, what’s the hardest thing about baking?
Baking can be quite a science, and sometimes even with all the right ingredients and measurements you can have environmental factors that mess with your process and result in some off batches. Sometimes just the frustration of that can be really discouraging for trying new things, but when I am able to tweak things based on my experience and knowledge and really nail something I haven’t nailed before its just such a good feeling.
Check out Smell the Flours tonight and a couple other Mondays !!
