Established in 1982 in Austin, Texas, our founders had a vision for a fun and funky Tex-Mex restaurant that served authentic and fresh food in an atmosphere that appealed to everyone. From these humble beginnings Chuy's was born!
Tex what? While we refer to our food as “Tex-Mex”, our menu offers a combination of flavors, with recipes and ingredients from across New Mexico, the Rio Grande Valley, deep South Texas, Mexico, our hometown of Austin and beyond. We are committed to providing authentic Tex-Mex using only the freshest ingredients. Our menu includes hand-rolled tortillas cooked all day on a traditional comal, our famous hand-squeezed lime juice margaritas and salsa fresca made in small batches throughout the day. We serve ten homemade Signature Sauces, ranging from the mild Tomatillo Sauce to the spicy Hatch Green Chile Sauce. A must-try is our fan favorite Creamy Jalapeño Sauce that’s so good you could drink it – trust us, we’ve seen it done.
In the late 2000's, with only fifteen restaurants around Texas, we decided it was time to let the universe in on our little Tex-Mex secret and "spread the love". Since then we have been sharing our vision of fresh, authentic Tex-Mex across the country and bringing what started "Deep in the Heart of Tex-Mex" to food lovers everywhere.
Our founders, along with their "decorator" Jose Cuervo, made some interesting decisions on restaurant décor. The hand-carved wooden fish "swimming" from the ceiling, hubcaps hanging bright and shiny above your booth and giant metal palm trees are all part of what makes Chuy’s, Chuy’s! We have a motto: "If you've seen one Chuy's, you've seen one Chuy's". Every restaurant has original touches specific to their location including a custom-built Elvis shrine and Dog Wall packed with local dog photos.
Here at Chuy’s, we love any excuse to celebrate! We combined that with our obsession for Hatch Green Chiles and established the annual Green Chile Festival. Every year during the peak of the harvest in Hatch, New Mexico, we celebrate for three weeks with a limited-time menu of dishes made with Green Chiles fresh from the fields. We harvest over 3.5 million pounds of this miraculous pepper each season to bring you the best flavor and spice the Southwest has to offer.
Want in on a little-known secret? Weekdays from 4pm to 7pm we offer up happy hour drink specials and our famous Fully-Loaded Nacho Car; an unlimited build-your-own nacho station with free chips, salsa, queso, ground sirloin and more, all served from the trunk of a classic car.
