Sous Chef – Rocks Cafe, Invercargill
Rocks Cafe is seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef.
Located in Invercargill, we are known for delivering high-quality, modern café dining with a strong focus on consistency, flavour, and presentation. This role is ideal for a chef ready to take on leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced, professional kitchen.
About the Role
As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring efficient service and consistently high food standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily kitchen operations
- Supervise, train, and support junior staff
- Ensure consistency in food preparation and presentation
- Maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards in line with NZ regulations
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and cost management
- Contribute to menu development and daily/weekly specials
- Step into Head Chef responsibilities when required
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role or senior CDP level
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- High attention to detail and consistency
- Sound knowledge of food safety practices
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays
