Born from a desire to shop around for tasty fresh crop coffee we setup our roasting operation in 2014 to supply our flagship cafes, Lumes + Little Merchants. Coffee Embassy is an exclusive micro coffee roaster and retailer based in Central Eastside Christchurch where we have our roaster in a shared space within cafe Lumes and a service and sensory workshop upstairs at 107 Fitzgerald avenue.

Our latest release is another exceptional lot from John Wilmer Cuellar, a fourth generation farmer who is continuing his family’s legacy on their farm Las Brisas in Huila, Colombia.

While John values classic processing methods such as washed, semi-washed, honey, and natural, he also experiments with advanced fermentation techniques, including oxidation and anaerobic processes. 

For this natural Pacamara, ripe cherries are floated to remove defects before undergoing 130 hours of fermentation followed by 15 hours of oxidation to bring out distinctive and complex flavour profiles. 

In the cup, ripe strawberry leads the profile, supported by a winey body and a soft candied lemon sweetness in the finish.

We have limited stock available of this one and it won’t be around for long, enjoy it while you can! Available now online and on Upstock, and on our shelves at Cellar Door and Cashel.

Last year, we experienced our first coffee from Cesar Buesaquillo. After sending some of the roasted coffee back to Cesar, he took the time to reach out, sharing how much it meant to know his hard work was being recognised and appreciated on the other side of the world.

Since then, our Head of Coffee James has made it a priority to continue sourcing coffees from Cesar each season. Being able to support passionate producers, and for them to know their efforts are genuinely valued, is what better coffee is all about.

We're stoked to now be sharing our latest release from Cesar with you. This natural Chiroso coats the palate with velvety white chocolate, juicy passionfruit acidity, and deep boysenberry sweetness.

Available now on our website, through Upstock, and on the shelves at Cellar Door and Cashel. It's a limited run of 200g bags across three roasts.

Water makes up 98% of coffee, so it’s an important factor in how your brew will taste. The mineral makeup of most tap water isn’t ideal for brewing; this is where APAX LAB mineral concentrates come in.

This box set is designed to unlock the full potential of your brew. Rather than changing the flavour, they enhance it using three different formulations of minerals:

🍋 TONIK for adding brightness and acidity
🍬 JAMM for adding roundness and sweetness
🪻 LYLAC for adding florals and a silky texture.

In the SQ on Madras St sits Christchurch’s cosiest new coffee spot, Measured. We’re stoked to be working with Kay and Brent on their new venture, which has been a long-time dream of theirs.

The moment you step into Measured, their passion for well-made coffee, good food, and genuine hospitality is clear. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the layout and furnishings to their house-made cabinet treats and flavour syrups.

The duo have put together a thoughtful coffee offering, with Embassy as their espresso blend paired with locally sourced milk. They also offer a range of single origins on pour over, batch brew and iced filter, retail coffee to take home, and guest roasters will soon join the rotation.

We first met Kay and Brent when they relocated to Christchurch a couple of years ago, and both have since worked at Embassy spots around the city before opening Measured’s doors at the end of March.

Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee on the go or settling in with a magazine or some work, we guarantee you’ll leave with a smile on your face. We recommend sticking around a while, soaking up the sun and treating yourself to an olive oil & sea salt chocolate chip cookie.
