When you’re in it day in day out you forget the outside world doesn’t have the same experience of this place that we do, especially those who haven’t worked in this industry.

We’ve been here so long it’s hard to know where to start with the stories, the people, the ups and downs, everything that makes this pub what it is. What we do know is that every year, every mistake or regret, every person through these doors whether staff or customer, have added to the history of this pub and to our journey through it. It’s been a long 11 years, but we wouldn’t change a single thing. So here’s to the next one, and the next, and the next…❤️

Take a look at what we’ve been up to this year 👀

We don’t have external financial backing or a big brewery behind our work. Everything we do is off the back of everyone’s hard work, and your decision to visit us when you dine out. It can take a little longer to get things done this way (a lot we have to do ourselves to keep costs down), and as we all work in the pub, time and energy is often scarce. But this makes it all the more satisfying when it comes together, and means have total control over what we do and how we do it.

We hope you like what we’ve done so far, out front and from the kitchen, and we always, always love to hear any feedback and recommendations you have for us going forward. There’s still work to be done here, and plenty of time to spend doing it, and we’re sure that together we can continue to make this pub a special place, for you and for us 🫶

The Landlady 😤

Mum, aunty, nanny, and all round boss. Where would we be without this lady? Short answer is we wouldn’t; she literally gave birth to us. But she’s also responsible for the version of The Railway alive today. 4 kids, 2 jobs, all on her own, and in 2015 she had the balls to say screw this, let’s learn how to pub. The rest, as they say, is history.

11 years down the line she’s still here, stronger than ever. Though she’s given us the reigns she’s still around to deal with the dogs, emergency drain blockages and last minute trips to the shop. She’s still the one we look to when times are tough, still the heartbeat of this little venture of ours. She’s earned her time off 20 times over, but she still feels every pulse of this pub through us. She’ll never stop worrying because that’s what Mums do, but now it’s our turn to give her back the time she gave to us. So here’s to Kay, always here, always helping, always smiling through it all. Thank you Mum, we love you ❤️ (Also can you watch Aldo next Saturday night? Thanks!)

ur apologies, but we’re closing until 5pm today. Kitchen is 40+ degrees, and we need the garden for the dogs, and whatever is going on here 🤷‍♂️

We know a pub garden might seem great right now, but we have to take the wellbeing of the team into account. We hope you understand ❤️

Our 2 for £20 pizza launch deal is here to stay. Mondays - Fridays, lunch and evening, you can get 2 of these beauties for £20, until the end of summer (at least). And that goes for takeaways too, just give us a call 💁‍♀️

We’re also adding a couple more to the menu from tomorrow. Full lineup:

🥗 Chicken Caesar - Mozzarella, parmesan & garlic base, pulled chicken, cesaer sauce, loaded with baby gem, local tomato & crispy onions

🍄‍🟫 Wild Mushroom & Goats Cheese - Garlic roasted wild mushrooms, goat’s cheese, caramelised onion, truffle oil, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🐑 Harissa Lamb- Goats cheese, tomato, pomegranate seeds, mint yogurt drizzle, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🧀 Margherita - Fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🍖 The Railway Meat Feast - Pepperoni, chorizo, nduja, jalapenos, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🥵 Chorizo & Hot Honey - Spanish chorizo, roasted red peppers, chilli-infused honey, DOP sauce, mozzarella

🍕 Pepperoni - Crisped pepperoni, oregano, DOP sauce, mozzarella

All served with San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Fior di Latte Mozzarella & Garlic and herb dip 🇮🇹

We’ve got the facilities for takeaway, so if you want to eat one in and take the other home thats fine by us. We’re still ironing out the details on pizzas but they look and taste magnifico, and they’ll only be getting better with practise 💪

Deliveries might be in the pipeline too 🤐

A note on upcoming road closures 🛑

As you may know, a section of the A334 will be closed next weekend because some genius built the new road into the Botley bypass a metre too high. The current mini roundabout (outside pinkmead car wash) will have to be raised (I guess?) which means getting from Botley to Curdridge will require a trip around the world. Shortcuts are also being closed to stop the back roads getting jammed.

Pedestrian and cycle access is still available, and we’ve been told access is still fine from the East (Wickham or Bishops Waltham way). The info from the website states:

Friday 22 May – Monday 25 May

From 9pm on Friday 22 May, both the A3051 (YMCA Fairthorne to A334) and the A334 (Sherecroft Way to Hilson Road) will be closed to traffic.
The A334 will reopen at 6am on Monday 25 May to all traffic via a temporary new road layout.
A signed diversion will be in place throughout the closure.

Monday 25 May – Monday 1 June

A section of the A3051 (YMCA Fairthorne to A334) will remain closed and will reopen at 6am on Monday 1 June.

A signed diversion route will be in place, this will differ from the first diversion to utilise the A334.

So yeah, total nightmare. We’re preparing for a quiet weekend as this essentially isolates us from half of the world, but we’re still open in case you find yourself on the east side!

And while we’re talking closures, we’ll be closed Monday- Wednesday next week to accommodate Wickham Horse Fair. We have some maintenance and refurb bits we’ll be completing in the time, so we’ll see you all when things start opening up again 😘
