Fou de fa fa ...it’s Friday!
And we’re flashing back to when the wonderful came to visit. Thank you, Atlanta, for these heartfelt and beautifully written words and for capturing the magic of your anniversary stay.
“There is a particular kind of magic to , and on our twenty-ninth year of marriage we were lucky enough to get a sneaky night away there…
The traditional gift for year 29 is furniture, which felt almost too perfect for a night spent somewhere this beautifully furnished — every room layered with texture and individuality, our room was gorgeous soft biscuit tones, quirky thoughtful details everywhere you look. The whole hotel feels like walking into someone’s beautiful home.
Grown-up, but never remotely stuffy. And the people looking after us made it — properly charming, properly attentive, the kind of staff who make a stay feel effortless rather than just comfortable.
The George sits right in the heart of Rye, our home town — cobbled streets, brilliant little shops, gorgeous cafés — and on the warmest of summer evenings we ended up exactly where we should have: in the George’s courtyard garden.
Elderflower spritzers, a game of Scrabble (I won, for the record), and dinner under the stars.
Cod loin with chorizo in tomato sauce for me, a very good rump steak for Dave, perfectly cooked chips and the crispest green salad to share.
Pudding was marshmallow with macerated strawberries and kalamata olive ice cream — sounds strange, tastes completely delicious, the saltiness cutting straight through the sweetness.
A glass of Chapel Down to finish, all local, all considered — The George does this beautifully throughout.
The most perfect way to mark 29 years.”
