Rosedale East Kilns, great to place to explore the dales industrial past. Ironstone mining ended in Rosedale in 1926

Rosedale East Calcining Kilns - a big industrial scar in a very beautiful dale.

This was once part of Rosedale’s 19th-century ironstone industry, where ore was roasted in the kilns before being taken away by railway towards the ironworks of Teesside, Tyneside and County Durham. The process drove off impurities and made the load worth hauling across the moors - hard, dirty work in a place that now looks almost peaceful again.

Did you know? Rosedale’s ironstone boom was so intense it became known locally as the “Yorkshire Klondyke”.

Our favourite Gin Shorty's Gins

Evening friends and aficionados! Well i just want to share this tonight......

Whilst in a pub on the North York Moors tonight... our Coach House Inn in Rosedale Abbey....i was having a quick tipple. Three lovely folk came in and ordered 3 double Town Hall Gin...never tried it before.
Tip top barmaid Teana said i was Shorty, who made it..
Well, they said it was the best they had had and had tried many, many gins on their travels.

I was....fair to say... buzzing! Shorty's Gins is on hold...that's all. Not on our knees or dead!....(someone said that!) You all know me and the CEO....we will see thee soon!###
