Our pool team made the short trip to Dunscroft with hopes of victory but returned empty handed.
Joe Barrow went out first and achieved a win in a very cagey affair to put us 1-0 up. Unfortunately what happened next was a mid order collapse. Paul moved himself up the order and produced (in his words) one of his worst performances ever. Blaming the lighting amongst other things it’s fair to say Stevie Wonder would have had more chance of winning. Next up Damo who lost another cagey affair. Good play by his opponent or just the way the balls roll sometimes but Damo hardly had a straight pot left the whole frame. Despite that,he went very close to chalking up a second point but it wasn’t to be. A tactical error from the Captain moved Dean Malton back to fourth and it’s fair to say the Carling had kicked in. It was later discovered that his pre match preparation had started at 12 noon 🙈
3-1 and not much room for error.
Next up Nigel Clarke making his debut. Nigel had chances to win but snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when he missed his final yellow with the 8 ball sat over a pocket.
4-1 and looking down the barrell.
Bailey Newton featured in the last singles game and held his nerve to keep the match alive.
Singles Result
Dunscroft Welfare 4-2 Ingram Arms

Doubles:
The pairing of Joe and Bailey opened up in the hope of extending matters. Their opponents were on the black before they’d even potted a ball. With things looking bleak they rallied and after a long drawn out game Bailey had a very potable black to close the gap. A pot he would bag 9 times out of 10 and unfortunately this was the one he’d miss. What could have been an incredible fight back now left the Ingram with only pride to play for as the score moved to 5-2.
Next up the pairing of Deano and Nigel. Stress levels were through the roof as it soon became apparent Deano had not done any home learning 🙈Despite Deano still having no clue of the rules the realisation for Nigel was he had no choice but to accept Deans opinion is, (“There’s no I in Team, but there is a Deano”) Staring at 6-3 with the 8 ball over the pocket the opposition player, David ‘Jona’ Jones borrowed Paul’s eyes and missed the black completely. 5-3
The final game saw Paul partner Damo and the communication between the two moved to a different level compared to the previous pairing. Paul found his eyes, or the John’s had kicked in and some good potting and tactical play gave them the edge. Paul potted the 8 ball, having been left it after a good pot from Damo. A 5-4 scoreline put some respectability back on the scoreboard, things were looking a lot worse at 4-1 down.
