Teacher thank you season is well underway!🍎

We’ve been busy this week creating beautiful bouquets, wrapping gifts and helping lots of lovely customers say a big thank you to the amazing teachers, teaching assistants and school staff 💕

Some schools have already broken up but many are finishing next week, so there’s still of time to pop in and pick up something special.

Behind every independent business… is someone who occasionally escapes the shop! 😂

People often see the delicious coffees, gorgeous gifts and the latest fashion finds…

They don’t always see the early starts, long days and everything that goes on behind the scenes.

So every now and then, we swap aprons and clothes rails for drinks and a catch-up 🥂 Who says shop owners don’t deserve a G&T after a busy week? 🍸😉

Last week, we said goodbye to another much-loved independent business. After an incredible 89 years, Coughlans Bakery closed its doors.

Even businesses with decades of history and loyal customers are facing unprecedented challenges.

That’s why we’re supporting the VAT’S THE PROBLEM campaign.

Led by renowned chef and publican Tom Kerridge, the campaign is calling on the Government to reduce VAT for hospitality from 20% to 10%.

We know that VAT isn’t the only challenge businesses are facing - rising energy costs, business rates, staffing costs and changing consumer spending all play a part - but reducing VAT is one practical step the Government could take to ease the pressure and help protect jobs, independent businesses and our high streets.

At Branching Out, we see every day how much independent businesses contribute to our community. They create jobs, support local suppliers, sponsor local events and make our high street somewhere we’re proud of.

The sad closure of Coughlans is a reminder that these businesses can never be taken for granted.

To honour the businesses we’ve lost, we can support the ones that are still here. Shop local, support local and help keep our high streets alive 🫶
