Showing our Summerland friends some love 🍇

While we were in the Okanagan, we stopped by Pamplemousse Jus to taste some wine, catch up with the team and show our support after the wildfires.

Their property is still standing, but the impact has been huge, with this season and their business heavily affected. It’s a tough time for local producers, and showing up matters.

Their tasting room is open, the wines are seriously good, and you can find a few of our favourites on the list at Mekong.

If you’re in the Okanagan, go pay them a visit. And if you’re in Whistler, come have a glass with us! 💕

Why is this dish called train station fried rice? 🚂

Meet Khao Pad Rot Fai. The name translates to “train fried rice,” tied to Thailand’s railways where it was served to passengers along the way. Egg, onion, tomato and savoury soy seasoning. Nothing complicated, just seriously good fried rice with a lot of nostalgia behind it.

It’s on our Night Market menu, and tonight is the last one of the summer 🔥 Your final chance to try it, plus the charcoal-grilled skewers you know and love, with drink specials all night!

Happy birthday to the heart behind the Mekong kitchen, Executive Chef Bonnie.

Born and raised in Bangkok, Bonnie’s love for food began around the family table. Today, she pours that same love into every dish, leading with a fiery heart, a passionate soul and plenty of kindness.

A mentor, a leader, and always ready to whip the boys into shape when needed. Mekong’s menu is a reflection of Bonnie herself: bold, creative, warm and full of soul.

Happy birthday, Bonnie. We love you! From the Mekong team ♥️

Happy birthday to our guy behind the bar, Mathew 🍸

Originally from Noosa, Mathew has been calling Whistler home for the past year and a half, bringing 7 years of bartending experience with him.

His favourite thing about Mekong? The team. His favourite cocktail? A cult classic he fell in love with while bar managing back in Australia and has stuck with ever since.

When he’s not behind the bar, you’ll find him by the lake, reading or hanging with friends. He’s lived in Italy, Ireland and Scotland, and has his sights set on Greenland next.

Help us wish Mathew a very happy birthday and, of course, come have a drink with him to celebrate! 🥳

Happy Birthday, Rami! 🎉

From his iconic fan to the birria family meals, there’s a lot that makes Rami, Rami.

Born and raised in Mexico, he grew up on chiles rellenos and learned everything he knows from his mum, including the number one kitchen rule that will forever be ingrained in his head: “BEHIND!” 😅

Ask Rami what he wants for family meal and there’s only one answer: birria, obviously. And his summer menu pick that you need to try? The Japanese eggplant. Trust the chef on this one.

When he’s not in the kitchen, you might catch him showing off another talent. He’s got quite the voice on him, and Gasolina by Daddy Yankee is never too far from the rotation.

One day he’ll make it to Edinburgh, but until then, he’ll leave you with this little piece of wisdom: you haven’t really lived until you’ve tried beef tongue tacos. 🌮

Happy birthday, Rami. We love you!

Whisky of the Week with Mikey 🥃

This week Mikey’s pouring the Sakurao Single Malt, a Japanese whisky from Hiroshima with notes of soft vanilla, caramel, coffee and a bright citrus finish.

Elegant, easy-drinking and best enjoyed slowly.

Mikey’s serve? Neat, so you can appreciate every sip. But it also shines in a highball when you’re after something light and refreshing.

Come by the bar and explore our whisky selection with Mikey. 🥃

Happy Birthday, Steve! 🎉

28 years in Whistler, countless stories, and always a good conversation waiting.

When Steve isn’t with us at Mekong, you’ll find him deep in the forest with his dog, pondering philosophy and geopolitical strategy (casual). He’s also skied IFSA World Tour events, because of course he has.

Ask Steve what to order and he’ll take you on the full Mekong journey - scallop crudo, Tom Kha mussels, then sablefish with green curry to finish. The man knows the menu.

When we asked what makes a good day at Mekong, his answer was simple: happy staff.

We’re lucky to have you, Steve. Thanks for the good energy, the great conversations and for always keeping us curious. Have the best day 🥂
