Tomorrow 🎆Trinity Festival 2026🎆 begins! Here is a throwback of a newspaper article about the 1993 festival!
📰 “Oh, what a shock’n wonderful time,” was had at this year’s Trinity Festival on the July 16-18 weekend.
The festivities got underway Friday evening with crowning of Miss Trinity, Annette Mouland, and a teenage dance.
Saturday saw partly sunny skies for the parade. At lunch hour a feast of Newfoundland Fish n Brewis was served up for hungry appetites.
During the afternoon various contests were held, like “Crazy Hat” contest that was won by Reanne Ploughman (1-5 yrs age group, Todd Mouland (6-9 yrs age group, and Tyler Vokey (10 yrs & up).
Winners of the different pageants were decided by judges early Saturday afternoon as well.
Courtney King was declared this year’s Pretty Baby, while Kyle Spurrell was announced Junior Prince, and Reanne Ploughman was chosen Junior Princess. In the senior category, Krystal Mackey was the winner of the Senior Princess contest and Justin Ploughman was chosen Senior Prince.
Throughout the festival music was provided by local talent.
There were races for the children, and a number of booths were set up, featuring games of chance, hot and cold food and beverages. The novelty sports events included the traditional dunk tank.
The Beer ‘n Cracker contest. What exactly does it involve? The first team to chug a bottle of beer, swallow a mouth full of dry crackers, and successfully produce out a whistle, wins the contest. This year’s defending team was defeated by Kevin Toope’s th*****me.
The celebrations continued on into the night with a square dance at the Parish Hall and an adult dance at Rocky’s.
On Sunday, booths reopened until nightfall when the siren sounded for the fireworks display.
Despite the not-so-good weather, Barbara Vokey of the Trinity Festival Committee said everything was great, including the public turnout and support.
