Meet King T’Challa and Nakia - our pair of Mexican Black Kingsnakes, and easily two of the most striking residents in the Mystik Jungle.

Nakia stays pure, deep, and jet black. T’Challa? He’s currently going through a shed cycle, which is why he’s looking greyish, cloudy, and a little muted. It’s temporary and within a few days, that dulled skin will slough off, and he’ll emerge glossy and glowing again.

Fun fact: this cloudy phase happens because a milky fluid forms between the old and new layers of skin to help separate them. It also temporarily impairs their vision; which is why snakes in shed tend to be a little more reserved and defensive. Give them space, and they’ll come back better than ever. ✨

Walter’s babysitting today! 🐢

Meet Atticus and Tortilla, the two young red-foot tortoises who came today for a visit!

Both are around 2 years old being watched over by the most responsible tortoise in Toronto: Walter, fully grown and taking his duties very seriously.

Red-foot tortoises are a beautifully social species; one of the few tortoises that actually seem to enjoy being around others of their kind. So this little intergenerational hangout? Genuinely one for the archives.

That’s not a rock. That’s our Eastern Box Turtle. We’re hosting this beautiful, fully-grown Eastern Box Turtle at Mystik for a limited time. A rare chance to see one of nature’s most iconic camouflage artists up close.

He’s fully grown, fully camouflaged, and tucked into the mud.

Eastern Box Turtles are omnivores that can live over 100 years. The iconic patterns on his shell? Designed by evolution to disappear against leaf litter and forest floor.

Some animals demand attention. Others just quietly become the landscape. 🌿
