We have been waiting a long time to type these words…

WE ARE NOW OPEN FOR RESERVATIONS FOR INDOOR DINING!

Our seating is extremely limited due to spacing and safety considerations – but we know your laughter and wine glass clinking and sparkling conversation will make the dining room feel full to the brim!

We have made some changes to how we are doing things – lots more details on our booking page (link in bio). All bookings will be pre-paid in order for us to plan accordingly with our suppliers, fishers, and farmers.

We are no longer accepting tipping/gratuities – as part of our efforts to work toward a more equitable, fair, and secure future for all of us who are lucky enough to have found our place in the world in this proud profession.

We know this is a complicated issue – we are a work in progress! We will keep talking about it with our staff and our colleagues and keep pushing! Onwards and upwards!

SEE YOU SOON TORONTO!
❤️🍾❤️🍾❤️🍾❤️🍾❤️

We are grateful to have as a resource the team at the EAC, academics at Dalhousie University and the Slow Fish Canada team. The linked paper (in bio) is thanks to these fine folks with our own input.

The racism has got to stop.
The violence must end.
The government must step in to ensure the safety of the Mi’kmaq fishers.
It has been over 20 years of inaction. The two nations (Canada and the Mi’kmaq) must work together towards a collaborative solution for the management of the SHARED resource.

We are taking a short break this week from Edulis at Home - next menu will be available to pre-order on July 6th for pickups on July 10, 11, and 12.

We have been working like crazy without a break since the first of May - we, like everyone in this business, had to make some hard and fast decisions to save our restaurant and went headfirst into survival mode. This week we are going to take a grateful breath, and celebrate a few special things - 12 years of marriage, 8 years of this restaurant (our heart’s dream - anniversary of 8 years occurred at the end of April during the pandemic closure), and most importantly 40 years on earth for my amazing husband, favourite chef, best friend, and partner.

A lot of you have been asking if we are planning to reopen the patio soon (and thank you for your enthusiasm and support!❤️). We are not ready to take that step - our tiny size makes doing so safely difficult. For a restaurant with such a small capacity, takeout - for now - is our lifeline. We thank you so much for your support - we plan to keep takeout going for now until the next steps seem clearer. Seeing you all - however briefly - when you come to pick up your Picnics has been a true joy and comfort. We are so grateful for the support from all the people who have ordered with us over the last 8 weeks. You have kept us afloat and alive, and motivated to keep pushing forward.

We’ll be back next week, extra spicy and ready to cook for you. ❤️❤️❤️ We love you Toronto.

This week marks a major milestone for Beast Restaurant - their 10 year anniversary.
Scott and I met about 14 years ago working in the kitchen at JK Wine Bar. Since then we have watched each other open restaurants, travelled together, gotten matching tattoos (of an anchovy, of course) eaten together at countless unforgettable and life changing meals, made drunken plans to change to world (or fly to Chicago for dinner), run to catch planes (on several occasions) after finishing busy services at each of our restaurants, consumed so many delicious things and probably thousands of bottles of wine... Scott is one of the nicest, most thoughtful, kindest people in the business. Someone I treasure to have in my life as a friend, a confidante, family.
Endlessly creative, always so positive about life and being a chef, incredibly supportive of fellow chefs, encouraging collaboration and sharing ideas, always up for adventure/travel/eating crazy things in far away places. An incredible, articulate, and strong advocate of the restaurant industry in Toronto. Just the most fun ever.
Opening a restaurant and surviving - THRIVING - in this tough industry for 10 years is an incredible accomplishment, requiring tenacity, relentless devotion, hard work, sacrifice, and skill. Scott has all that and more.
Scotty pants, congratulations on 10 years of being one of the best in the biz - so proud of everything you have and continue to accomplish. So proud of the great chef you are and the amazing business you have built and nurtured to become a beloved Toronto institution. Michael and I are so grateful to have you in our lives.
You have great things ahead of you (👶!!!) - and I look forward to many hundreds more shared meals and adventures. Onwards and upwards ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ @ Beast
