People assume restaurants are about the food.

And they are. The food should always be the heart of it.

But what no one talks about is everything around it.

It’s sitting across from someone you’ve been missing and waiting to see. It’s celebrating something big (or nothing at all). It’s trading stories over a shared plate, glass in hand, with nowhere else to be.

It’s not thinking about cooking, or the dishes, or the hustle and bustle of life waiting for you at home.

Summer doesn’t ask permission before it leaves.

One day the patio’s full, the w**e’s cold, the light’s doing that golden thing through the trees, and the next, you’re pulling out a jacket wondering where the season went.
