Familiar, but never ordinary.
That’s the sweet spot.

The kind of neighbourhood coffee shop where you know what you’re getting, but there’s always something worth noticing. A really good cup of coffee. Something warm from the pastry case. A favourite corner. A conversation that runs longer than planned.

We want Fringe to feel considered, but never precious. A little eclectic. A little unexpected. Comfortable enough to settle in and stay awhile.

Because the details matter, but only if they make the whole place feel better.

We kept the name on purpose.

Fringe already had something you can’t manufacture with a new logo: history.

It had regulars. Routines. Favourite seats. Familiar faces. A place in Montgomery. So when it came time to rethink the brand, starting over never really made sense.

Instead, we asked what Fringe could look like if its identity finally matched the kind of place we’re building.

A little refined. A little eccentric. Warm, imperfect and intentionally lived-in.

That’s where the new Fringe came from.

You’ll notice the coffee ring showing up in different ways. Deep greens and warm, earthy tones. Type that feels collected rather than corporate. Details that aren’t always perfectly matched, because they’re not supposed to be.

And over the next little while, you’ll start seeing it make its way from the screen into the shop.

Same name. Same neighbourhood. A Fringe that finally feels more like itself.

Keep an eye out. The details are just getting started. ☕️

There are some things we have no interest in overcomplicating. Coffee is one of them.

It should be good. Really good. Made with care by people who know what they’re doing, and served without making you feel like you need a coffee dictionary to order it.

Your usual before work. An espresso at the counter. Something iced when Calgary randomly decides it’s summer again. Or a cup that turns into an excuse to stay another hour.

That’s the kind of coffee shop we want Fringe to be.

Good coffee. Good people. No pretence.

So, what exactly are we building here?

Not a coffee shop that feels too precious to sit in. Not a perfectly styled space where you feel like you should whisper. And definitely not another copy-and-paste café.

We want Fringe to have a little soul.

Old-world warmth. A little eccentricity. Really good coffee. Good food. Plants that have probably been here longer than some of us. Familiar faces behind the counter. Tables you lose track of time at.

A place that feels considered without feeling too considered.

Because the best neighbourhood coffee shops aren’t just somewhere you grab a latte. They’re where you work for an hour, run into someone you know, stay longer than planned, and eventually develop a very specific favourite seat.

That’s the Fringe we’re building.

Refined and relaxed. Familiar and unexpected. A little lived-in, with plenty of character.

Fringe is getting a bit of a glow-up, but we’re not disappearing while it happens.

The doors are open, the coffee is pouring, and little by little, a new chapter is taking shape.

A new chapter for a familiar corner of Montgomery. ☕️

Fringe has new ownership, but this isn’t about turning it into something unrecognizable. It’s about taking what people already love about their neighbourhood coffee shop and giving it some new energy.

A refreshed space. Thoughtful food. Really good coffee. And the kind of atmosphere where stopping in for one cup can easily turn into staying for another.

Some things will change. Some things will stay comfortably familiar. And over the next little while, you’ll get to watch it all come together.

For now, the doors are open, the coffee is pouring, and we’d love for you to be part of what’s next.

Four years ago, we opened the doors to Fringe Coffee with the hope of creating a warm, welcoming place where people could gather over a great cup of coffee.

What we found was so much more than that.

From the very beginning, you welcomed us with open arms. You supported a small local business, shared your mornings with us, celebrated milestones with us, and filled our café with countless conversations, laughter, and friendships. You weren’t just our customers—you became the heart of Fringe.

As of August 1, Fringe Coffee will begin a new chapter under new ownership.

While saying goodbye is truly bittersweet, we’re excited to see Fringe continue its story. We hope you’ll welcome the new owner with the same kindness, encouragement, and support that you’ve shown us over the past four wonderful years.

To everyone who has walked through our doors—whether you stopped by every morning or simply discovered us along the way—thank you. Thank you for every cup, every conversation, every smile, and every memory. It has truly been an honour to serve this incredible community.

As we look back on the last four years, we’d love to hear your favourite Fringe memories. If you have a special story, a favourite moment, or a photo you’d like to share, we’d be honoured if you posted it in the comments below. We’d love to celebrate this chapter with you.

We’ll miss seeing your familiar faces more than words can say, but we’ll leave with hearts full of gratitude and memories we’ll carry with us forever.
