Spicy Thai Hut – A Heartfelt Goodbye
After 12 incredible years, Spicy Thai Hut has reached the end of this journey. We first opened around the corner in 2010 and ran until 2015, before reopening in our current location in 2018. It’s been a big chapter in our lives — full of long days, big crowds, great food, and plenty of memories.
We’ve been lucky enough to be successful — full most nights, often turning people away. But behind the scenes, it’s been the hardest job I’ve ever had. The long hours, endless pressure, and the rising costs of running a small business — from rates, suppliers, staff, insurance, tax — it really takes it out of you. The government doesn’t help — they just take. That’s my little rant out of the way.
There’s been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears poured into this place over the years. Jackie has been unbelievable — the hardest working person I’ve ever known. She’s in the kitchen from 8am to 10pm every day we’re open, and even on days off, she’s back in there from 9 to 7, prepping, making everything from scratch. Every single meal was cooked to order — no shortcuts, no Bain Marie — and that’s why she’s earned such a great reputation. People came for her food.
William quite literally grew up with the restaurant. It’s been a huge part of his childhood. He’s spent countless hours sitting in the restaurant, playing and talking with so many different people. It’s helped shape the young man he is today — social, confident, and grounded. The restaurant was like family to him too.
And then there’s me. I think Jackie says it best: “Him No. 1 Dumb!”
…She’s probably not wrong!
It’s been emotional saying goodbye. Thank you to every one of you who supported us along the way — whether you came in once, or a hundred times. You’ve been part of our story, and we’re truly grateful.
With love and thanks,
Jackie keith william
