ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR THE FIRST-EVER ZAMBEZI RIVER INDABA & EXPO 2024

AFRICAN RIVERS incollaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia, WaterAid Zambia, WWF Zambia, Economics Association of Zambia, Buyzed Campaign, Twalumba Resort, Great North Road Academy and UK-Africa Sports Legacy is spearheading the preparations of hosting the first-ever Zambezi River Indaba & Expo 2024 in Livingstone the tourist capital of Zambia, said Ms. Phiri.

Ms. PHIRI Tilamazuwa, Chief Executive Officer for African Rivers announced that the ONLINE REGISTRATION for participating at the first-ever Zambezi River Indaba & Expo 2024 will be open in December, 2023 covering large firms, cooperatives, SMES, exporters, policymakers & regulators, environmentalists & conservationists, foreign exhibitors, innovators, farmers, artisanal miners, and manufacturers interested to showcase their products and services at the multi-sector Zambezi River Expo. Please look out for the link this coming December so that you do not miss out on selecting your best spot and desired exhibition space, and participation in site visits to the Mighty Victoria Falls, spectacular Kazungula Bridge, and Lake Kariba among others.

She added that the targeted sectors include tourism; technology and artificial intelligence; agriculture and agro-processing; fisheries and livestock; boat building; sustainable mining and machinery; climate change; marine transport; education; health; water infrastructure; clothing and textiles; pharmaceuticals and medical devices; retail; renewable energy (green hydrogen); arts and crafts; financial and infrastructure services; high-tech innovations; and furniture.

Ms. Phiri stressed that the Zambezi River Indaba & Expo 2024 will offer the following services to participating companies:
•B-2-B meetings and B-2-G meetings;
•Exhibition space and smart booth facility;
•Opportunities for product launches, demonstrations and tastings;
•Site visits to selected features within the Zambezi River Basin;
•Free exhibition space and booths to qualifying 20 SMES;
•Showcase a full range of products and services, and access tailor-made seminars or conferences running parallel to the exhibition. The contents of the seminars will be based on various topics in the focus sectors.

The Zambezi River Indaba & Expo 2024 will be held under the theme: *"Promoting River Restoration, Climate Smart Investment, Technology and Water Harvesting for Sustainable Development in Africa"* and will be underpinned by the four subthemes namely innovation, opportunity, green economy and sustainability.

My comment on the food poisoning that unfortunately led customers to be hospitalized after having ate food from a certain restaurant on the Copperbelt.
The authorities must focus more on the source of the lettuce that was laced with pesticides. Whereas, we appreciate the efforts made by public health department in ensuring compliance by food handlers, more effort is equally required to address the growers of these ingredients.
What’s disturbing is the manner in which some journalists in one Daily Mail edition, totally missed the point by creating an impression that seemed to suggest that the particular Copperbelt restaurant was responsible for the unfortunate fate.
As professional journalists, it’s imperative to thoroughly investigate before putting it out there!
Remember that the food industry employs a large number of people in our nation and careless reporting could lead to serious job losses not to mention the direct and negative effect on the economy.
Now...how do we move forward? Firstly, in my humble opinion, I feel a lot more must be done in ensuring compliance by suppliers of ingredients.
Whereas the food handlers are already mandated by law to comply, my emphasis is in seeing similar legislation be put in place for suppliers of ingredients. Things like the supplier being compelled to having a record or data relating to their production and regularly submit these reports to the relevant department/s as well as end users such as restaurants, hotels, food processing plants, etc.
As I conclude, am certain, that other technocrats can expend the list to better our lives as we thrive in all aspects, in this great nation, Zambia.
