Celebrating Women's Day at !Khwa ttu.

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who inspire, lead, teach, create and care, at !Khwa ttu and in communities across South Africa.

From sharing San stories and knowledge, to caring for our land, welcoming visitors, creating beautiful food, nurturing young people and keeping our heritage alive, women are at the heart of so much of what we do.

This Women’s Day, we honour the strength, wisdom and resilience of women. We celebrate the women whose voices carry stories across generations and whose knowledge continues to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Here’s to the women who came before us, the women beside us, and the young women who will lead the way.

Happy Women’s Day from all of us at !Khwa ttu. 🌸

🌿 MEET THE SPEAKERS | FROM PLANTS TO PEOPLE & PLACE

Join us for two inspiring Saturday sessions in the Museum Archive exploring the deep connections between people, plants, and the land.

🌱 11h30-12h30 | YVETTE ANDERSON (Yamù Botanicals)
In “Meet the Mints: One of South Africa's Most Diverse Plant Families,” landscape architect, educator, and founder of Yamù Botanicals - Yvette Anderson - introduces one of the most fascinating plant families. Drawing on her work in medicinal plants, ecological restoration, and human wellbeing, she'll share how this herb species has shaped both landscapes and lives.

🌿 12h30-13h30 | !KHWA TTU GREEN TEAM
Known as the "Embassy" of the San of Southern Africa, and home to a very different kind of museum, !Khwa ttu is a place where indigenous knowledge, conservation, and cultural heritage come together. In “Look After the Land and the Land Looks After You,” Michael Daiber, Hendreas Vaalbooi, and members of the Green Team will share how working alongside San communities since 1999 has helped restore both landscapes and livelihoods.

🎟 Your festival ticket includes access to all 9 Herb Festival talks.
