Heritage is more than history. It is the stories we carry with us.
It is found in the traditions our grandparents taught us, the languages that connect us, the recipes that bring families together, the music that fills celebrations, and the customs that have survived because generation after generation chose to keep them alive.
Today, we pause to remember the people and communities who came before us — their journeys, their traditions, their struggles and their contributions to the South Africa we know today.
And while Heritage Day gives us a moment to celebrate where we come from, it also reminds us that heritage is something we carry forward. The stories, traditions and values we preserve today will become part of the history remembered tomorrow.
Today, we celebrate the past that shaped us, the heritage that connects us and the stories still being written.
