MEC CHILOANE TO INTRODUCE LAW FIRM TO PROBE DEATH OF REAGILE PRIMARY SCHOOL LEARNER.

Matome Chiloane will on Wednesday introduce a law firm appointed to conduct an independent investigation into the death of a Grade 5 learner at Reagile Primary School in the Winnie Mandela area of Tembisa.

Ten-year-old Milton Neo Mokgoatsane died on 16 February 2026 after an incident on the school premises during second break. Preliminary reports at the time indicated that a group of learners were playing near soccer goal posts when one allegedly fell onto him, resulting in severe injuries. Paramedics later declared him dead at the scene.

The Gauteng Department of Education says the appointed law firm will be formally introduced at the school on Wednesday, where the terms of reference for the independent probe will also be outlined. The investigation is expected to focus on the circumstances surrounding the incident and any possible accountability.

Police had already opened a case following the incident, while the department previously indicated that an internal enquiry would also be conducted.

Wednesday’s briefing will take place at Reagile Primary School in Tembisa at 11am.
