A waiter who lost his job during lockdown is now running a pizza takeaway called Lok-shin Pizza. Lok-shin is a play on the word “location”, the word used for townships under apartheid.

Takesure Ranjisi worked as a waiter in Gqeberha for 3 years before he was retrenched in the 2020 lockdown without any notice and with no payout. He gave up trying to apply for unemployment insurance funding as his former employer would not cooperate.
Takesure started making pizzas in his kitchen and some of the regular clients from the restaurant where he had worked bought groceries for his family and gave him money for rent and baking supplies.

“It was very painful to get retrenched during the lockdown because my family did not get government food handouts, since we are from Zimbabwe,” said Ranjisi.

While still making pizzas in his kitchen, someone leaving the fast food business offered him a freight container. He now pays local young people to do deliveries. 🤩🥳🙏
