At The Conservatory Restaurant at Schoone Oordt, we love celebrating the abundance of our beautiful part of the world. Fresh, seasonal ingredients, locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared to bring out the very best of each season.

For us, good food is about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about knowing where it comes from, celebrating our local producers and sharing the flavours of the Overberg with everyone who joins us at our table.

There’s so much to discover around Schoone Oordt that one or two nights never feels quite enough.

Stay a little longer and give yourself time to explore beyond Swellendam too. One of our favourite little outings is a drive up the Tradouw Pass to Barrydale for a milkshake at the famous Diesel & Crème.

Beautiful scenery, a good road trip and something delicious waiting at the other end. Exactly the kind of day that makes a longer stay worthwhile.

Dinner at The Conservatory is one of those lovely parts of a stay at Schoone Oordt.

Our on-site restaurant is an intimate space filled with natural light, where Alison creates seasonal menus inspired by the produce and flavours of our region.

Locally sourced ingredients are paired with beautiful w**es from Swellendam and neighbouring areas including Robertson, Barrydale and Malgas, making each dinner feel connected to this special part of the Western Cape.

Come hungry and settle in for an evening of good food, good w**e and warm hospitality.

“It feels like reliving an experience in an elegant 19th-century house. The reception, common areas and central dining room breathe the beautiful charm of bygone days. Kindness, attention to detail, breakfast and dinner are top-notch.

The owner tells her story with such enthusiasm and shares how she created this place with a love that will never end. I spent only one night, and that was the mistake. I should have stayed longer. It feels like home.”
