Our love of fire runs through every part of the VUUR experience, not only in our meats and vegetables, but in our desserts too.

Malaika shares more about our Basque-style burnt cheesecake and how we use fire to bring gentle smoke and a touch of salt into the sweeter side of the meal. It is a dessert that carries the same depth, warmth and character that defines everything we do.

There is something timeless about a glass of red wine shared with a great steak. The marriage of tannin, salt, smoke and deep flavour is one of life’s simplest and most perfect pleasures.

We are incredibly fortunate to call Remhoogte Wine Estate home — a place where a beautiful selection of wines is produced right on our doorstep, each one offering the opportunity to pair beautifully with the meats we cook over fire.

A standout for us is the Remhoogte Vantage Pinotage, crafted from low-yielding bush vines. It brings depth, structure and a bold expression of fruit, with a richness that holds its own against the intensity of fire-cooked meat — a wine that feels both rooted in the land and perfectly at home at the table.

You can either hate Pinotage or you love it. We love this one!!!

We work long hours … some days longer than others but we are fortunate.

We are fortunate to meet amazing diners that comes to our restaurants and connect with them and even connect them to other diners at our social table experience.

We are fortunate to cook amazing produce. Great meats, fish and vegetables that comes from the ocean and land supplied by amazing suppliers.

We are fortunate to work with fire, a medium that is ancient but brings us so much flavour.

So even after all the long days and sometimes being tired we still consider ourselves so lucky to do what we love and share this with our diners.

VUUR Goose Island is our island restaurant — a space you reach by crossing a bridge, stepping into a dedicated braai room surrounded by water. Whether seated inside or out on the deck, you’re immersed in beautiful, uninterrupted views.

The Social Table is our shared dining experience, where guests come together to enjoy a multi-course, fire-cooked menu paired with wines from Remhoogte Wine Estate. From your seat, you’ll have a direct view of the hearth — the heart of what we do.

This experience is interactive and immersive. You’re invited to stand, engage with the chefs as they cook, and hear the stories behind each dish as it’s prepared.

It’s about connection. It’s about great food and great wine. And most of all, it’s about enjoying the VUUR experience together.

This ia the first video in the series of three showing the difference of the different dining areas available at VUUR at Remhoogte Wine Estate.

We start our visit to VUUR Private Dining.

This is our original stable that we renovated to create an intimate private dining experience where we only serve one table a day for lunch between Tuesday and Saturday.

It is the perfect place for a group of friends, family or even a business lunch experience where you can either sit inside during the cooler months or at our table under the oak tree with wonderful views of the wildlife camp where you can sometimes view springbok, nyala, black wildebeest or zebra grazing.

The table can be booked for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 diners. This gives you the exclusive use of the dining area with your own team.

* During Festive Season (December and January) we require a minimum of 10 diners to reserve the table.

What an honour to have been part of World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurant list, having achieved #88 in 2024 and #87 in 2025 respectively.

Breaking bread is always how we love to begin a meal, and nothing sets the tone better than our Bone Marrow Sourdough Roll.

It carries the essence of a meaty start, while the smoky flavour from the fire hints at what’s to come in the VUUR experience.

One of the most important pillars at VUUR is our love of meat — and above all, the steak on the bone.
It’s a love rooted in flavour. Bone-in cuts give depth, richness and character that only time, fire and patience can unlock.

But great steak starts long before it reaches the fire.
The beef itself matters — where the cattle comes from, how it’s raised, and the respect shown to it before it ever meets the flame.

Everyone has their own way of cooking a bone-in steak. At VUUR, we follow a few simple rules:

Temper.
Cook on the bone.
Render the fat.
Rest.
Bring the heat.
Bring the crust and char.
Rest again.
Then carve — removing every sinew — and serve.

These are the steps that work for us.
Steps that allow extended contact with fire, flame and smoke — building layers of flavour, not rushing the process.

We finish simply: good salt and our VUUR butter, just enough to soften the crust and balance the char.

We love bone-in steaks.
