For Chef Mokgadi Itsweng, heritage lives in the garden, in indigenous ingredients, in stories shared by grandmothers, and in the knowledge carried from one generation to the next.

From growing and preserving food to bringing traditional ingredients into modern dishes, her story reminds us that food heritage is not something to place in a museum, it is something to keep alive.

🌿 HERITAGE & OUR FOOD STORIES 🍲

This Heritage Month, FERC is celebrating more than the food on our plates, we’re celebrating the knowledge, memories, traditions and identities woven into every meal.

Our food heritage is carried through generations, in the ingredients we grow, the dishes we prepare, the stories shared around the table, and the indigenous knowledge passed down from one generation to the next.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be hearing from different voices as they share their personal experiences and perspectives on indigenous knowledge, food and identity, generational knowledge, research and heritage, and the future of our food heritage. 🌍

Because when we preserve our food heritage, we preserve the stories of who we are.

Join us as we learn and celebrate . 🌿
