FANRPAN at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 | Kigali, Rwanda 🇷🇼

“From evidence to policy. From pilots to scale. From partnerships to delivery.”

Speaking during the Researcher Roundtable, the FANRPAN CEO emphasised that Africa’s food systems transformation requires us to move beyond fragmented approaches.

Research cannot end with generating evidence. Partnerships cannot end with commitments. Innovation cannot end with successful pilots.

FANRPAN called for stronger connections between science and policy, governments and the private sector, financing and priorities on the ground, and innovation and investment.

No single institution can address today’s complex food systems challenges alone. We need genuine co-design, coordinated delivery, catalytic and blended financing, and stronger accountability for results.

The goal must be to turn Africa’s knowledge and innovation into impact at scale.

FANRPAN at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026!

Earlier today, FANRPAN joined key stakeholders at the Researcher’s Forum: Targeting Big Bets Across Africa’s Agri-Food Transformation, held from 10:00–12:00 CAT.

Representing FANRPAN, Dr. Tshilidzi Madzivhandila shared insights on the importance of policy and evidence-based decision-making in driving Africa’s agri-food transformation.
The discussion explored some of the key governance challenges holding back innovation and investment, including institutional silos, fragmented policies, financing gaps, and limited participation in decision-making.

The message is clear: Africa needs to move beyond pilots and proof of concepts and focus on scaling solutions that create lasting impact.

This will require stronger governance, better alignment of public and private resources, evidence-informed policies, and effective accountability mechanisms.

FANRPAN remains committed to strengthening evidence-based dialogue and supporting transformative solutions for resilient, sustainable and food-secure African food systems.

Women at FANRPAN | Women Advancing Nutrition & Food Systems

As part of our Women at FANRPAN feature series, we spotlight Nobuhle Sharon Lungu (PhD), an Animal Scientist and researcher working at the intersection of nutrition and sustainable food systems.

Driven by a passion for science and its connection to people’s lives, Dr Lungu’s work highlights how animal science, nutrition, livelihoods and the environment are interconnected. She is particularly proud of seeing research move beyond the page to inform meaningful conversations, decisions and real change for communities, families and farmers across Africa.

Her message to women is powerful: “Do not underestimate the value of your perspective.” Keep learning, take up space, ask questions and have the courage to contribute to shaping the future of our food systems.

Different roles. Diverse journeys. One shared purpose.

Women at FANRPAN | Celebrating Women Who Drive Change

As we conclude Women’s Month, we are proud to spotlight the women behind FANRPAN’s work — women whose knowledge, skills, passion and diverse experiences contribute to advancing Africa’s food systems.

Spotlight on Ms. Shiluva Chauke Nkanyani, whose work brings together Agricultural Economics, programme delivery, MEAL, creativity and communication.

Her journey is a reminder that careers do not have to follow a single path. By combining technical knowledge with creativity and evidence, we can turn knowledge into action and action into meaningful impact.

“My journey has shown me that you do not have to fit into one box. Agricultural economics, programmes, evidence and creativity can come together to turn knowledge into meaningful action for Africa’s food systems.”

As an African working for Africa, Shiluva finds purpose in seeing research and programme experiences move beyond the page to inform conversations, decisions and real change.

This is the woman behind the work. This is her contribution. This is her impact.
