Tolo Moro, a second-generation South African Italian, might have family ties to the late Aldo Moro, the assassinated Italian politician 1916 – 1978), and from time-to-time fun banter arises about two pirates in his genealogy. His parents, who travelled from Torviscosa, North Italy, to South Africa by boat, started their new life in KZN. Tolo was born and raised in Umkomaas, where his Dad worked at Saiccor for 45 years, retiring with the legacy of making the best coffee in the company. Growing up in a diverse community, Tolo learned English and Afrikaans alongside his Italian heritage, attending an Italian school with his two sisters.
2Moro’s Eat & Drink began with Tolo, a man who loves to cook, bake, and entertain, and his wife Irene, a cheerful Boeremeisie at heart. Friendly, hardworking, and passionate about food and people, they dreamed of opening a Bistro where they could share their love for good food and great company. Their dream came true when they found the perfect spot, with ample parking – and the name was a no-brainer: they are, after all, the 2Moro’s! Nearly a decade later, their restaurant remains a local favourite, drawing patrons from all over Montana and surrounding areas.
