It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of my brother, Morné de Jongh, who passed away on Friday morning, 22 May 2026.

Many people knew Morné as the proud owner of Halfway Pub and Grub — a place filled with laughter, friendship, good memories, and great times. To so many of you, it was more than just a pub; it was a second home, and that was because of the kind of person Morné was.

This is an incredibly difficult time for our family, and we appreciate all the love, support, and memories that people have shared with us. We hold onto the hope that brighter days will come again.

In honour of Morné and everything Halfway Pub and Grub meant to so many people, I would perhaps one day, in a few years’ time, return to South Africa and reopen a Halfway Pub and Grub in his memory — to keep his spirit, legacy, and the good times alive.

Rest in peace, my brother. You will never be forgotten.
