Ons beweeg nou die laaste paar dae binne waarin ons vir Mare-lee by Padlangs gaan groet. Ons harte is swaar.

Vir 17 jaar was sy deel van Padlangs โ€” deel van ons mense, ons besige dae, ons stil dae, ons funksies, ons Sondae, ons kliรซnte, 17 seisoene en soveel herinneringe wat oor die jare hier gemaak is.

Sewentien jaar is nie sommer net โ€™n getal nie. Dit is โ€™n groot stuk van โ€™n mens se lewe, en ook โ€™n groot stuk van Padlangs se storie. Daarvoor sal ons vir haar altyd dankbaar wees.

Nou breek daar vir Mare-lee โ€™n nuwe hoofstuk aan, en ons wens haar net die mooiste dinge toe vir die pad vorentoe. Mag hierdie nuwe begin vir haar nuwe geleenthede, geluk en baie sukses bring. Ons weet dat sy haar hart en energie sal ingooi soos net sy kan, en ons glo sy gaan โ€™n groot sukses maak van dit wat voorlรช.

Aan elkeen wat Mare-lee oor die jare by Padlangs leer ken het โ€” as sy jou koffie gemaak het, jou bestelling geneem het, saam met jou gelag en gesels het of bloot oor baie jare โ€™n bekende gesig geword het:

Kom maak gerus nog โ€™n draai en kom groet haar vir oulaas by Padlangs.

Sy sal nog โ€˜n paar dae in Oktober by ons wees.

Mare-lee, dankie vir die baie jare, die herinneringe en jou aandeel in Padlangs se storie. Jy is een in โ€˜n Biljoen!

Tucked away in the picturesque Gamtoos River Valley lies one of natureโ€™s most intriguing masterpieces โ€“ the Queen Victoria Profile.

As you drive along the road between Patensie and the majestic Baviaanskloof, keep an eye on the rugged cliffs for a glimpse of this royal landmark.

Near Andrieskraal, just 16 km from Patensie, you will see the striking resemblance of Queen Victoria rising from the weathered rock face. Her profile, carved over millennia by the forces of nature, stands tall in the Enon conglomerate, a matrix of water-borne pebbles formed some 140 million years ago.

It is a humbling reminder of the incredible power of erosion and the ancient history embedded in the cliffs that cradle the Gamtoos River.

The key to spotting her lies in your timing and direction โ€“ look west, stop, and glance back, and youโ€™ll see her regal bust emerging from the cliffs as if she were watching over the valley.

The scenic drive to the nearby dam is the perfect opportunity to take in the beauty of this hidden gem.

So, take a slow meander, soak in the valleyโ€™s ancient story, and see if you can spot the Queen Victoria Profile โ€“ natureโ€™s own royal sculpture, hidden in the heart of the Eastern Cape.
