Citrus pavlova. 🍊

Light, crisp, creamy and just the right amount of tart. A simple dessert made with what was abundant at the time, which is often how the best things on our table begin.

Nothing too fussy. Just wholesome food, thoughtfully put together and made by people who really love to cook. 🌿

Planning each week’s lunch starts with what we have around us. What’s growing in the garden, what’s in season, what’s coming from the farm and, quite simply, what we feel like cooking.

From there, the menu takes shape. Familiar flavours, good ingredients and the kind of food we love to put in the middle of a table and share.

Scenes from a wedding weekend at The Kraal 🌿🥂

Good food, full tables, plenty of celebrating and, naturally, a little rugby squeezed in between it all 🏉

A very happy Saturday on the farm, and a few of our favourite moments from behind the scenes.

Lunch is served family-style, so the platters are passed around the table, everyone helping themselves to a little more of this and that.

A slow-cooked free-range Eastern Cape beef short rib in a rich red wine, baby onion and mushroom sauce, served with potato, leek and celeriac gratin, and a platter of seasonal vegetables. Exactly the sort of meal we love serving on a winter’s day.

“Too full for dessert.” Then this arrives.

A warm pear tart with salted caramel and chocolate chantilly. Best enjoyed slowly, with a glass of Joostenberg Estate Noble Late Harvest, and no plans to rush off afterwards.
