📸 HELP US FIND A PIECE OF CAMP ROADHOUSE HISTORY! 🇿🇦
Camp Roadhouse has been part of Oudtshoorn for more than 85 years.
Established in 1940, Camp Roadhouse was born during the difficult years of the Second World War, when Jan Potgieter and Giddie Pocock decided to open a take-away business across the road from the Infantry School — serving the soldiers stationed there.
In the early days, goods were even taken to the soldiers by donkey cart! 🐴
For generations of young men in uniform, Camp Roadhouse became part of their Oudtshoorn experience — a place for something to eat, something cold to drink, a quick coffee, a pie, a chat with friends, and perhaps a little taste of home while away from theirs.
And that's where we need YOUR help.
🕰️ WE ARE LOOKING FOR OLD PHOTOGRAPHS
We have very few photographs of Camp Roadhouse from before the 2000s, and we would love to change that.
If you — or your parents, grandparents, relatives or friends — ever:
🎖️ Served at the military base in Oudtshoorn
🎖️ Attended training or courses in Oudtshoorn
🎖️ Were stationed at the Infantry School or army base
🎖️ Passed through Oudtshoorn during military service

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK THROUGH YOUR OLD PHOTO ALBUMS.
You might have a photograph that seems ordinary to you — perhaps a group of soldiers standing outside, a military vehicle parked nearby, friends having something to eat, or simply Camp Roadhouse in the background.
To us, that photograph could be a priceless piece of history.
We would especially love photographs from the 1940s–1990s, but absolutely anything from before 2000 would be appreciated.
