One of the most popular stops on the renowned Midlands Meander is Nottingham Road, a village easily reached from the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, only 20 minutes from the foothills of the Drakensberg and just over an hour and a half from Durban International Airport. In the heart of Nottingham Road village is the Legendary Nottingham Road Hotel. Established in the mid 1800s as a staging post between Ladysmith and Pietermaritzburg, and boasts the oldest pub in Kwa-Zulu Natal, “Notties Hotel” is a landmark in the picturesque KZN Midlands. Its unique charm answers the needs of many travellers seeking a hotel steeped in history, beauty and reputation, and its historic pub holds, in its time-scarred wooden panels, many a tale of battles lost and won, love lost and found, and friendships made and renewed. It has for generations been not only a resting place for travellers to and from the coast, or a friendly, cheerful, relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, but also a hugely popular meeting place for locals, old and new friends, and families. Nottingham Road locals are a friendly bunch, and there is plenty to do in the area e.g. fly-fishing, walking, hiking, horse riding, Spa visits and of course the never to be forgotten Midlands Meander. Being so close to the Johannesburg/Durban N3 toll road and the airport, Notties Hotel is within easy reach of World Cup and other sporting venues.e.g. ABSA stadium in Durban, home ground of the Natal Sharks, the new, exciting Moses Mabida Stadium, Durban where many Wold Cup games, and the semi-finals, will be played.
