A Spirit Of Justice: 🧉 🥛 🫖 🍶 🍷 🍸 🧉: Solomon takes over from his father, David, and is crowned king. Yahweh has appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him to ask for what he wanted. God is pleased with his answer and rewards him over and above his desires. Solomon has always been known for his wisdom and one of the Bible stories I heard as a child is the one of the two mothers and how the death of one of their children led to a trial that showed the depth of his wisdom. This is recorded in 1 Kings 3:16-27. Matthew, Mark and Luke all mention Jesus telling us to ask and that we will receive. Yet all of these evangelists also say the Jesus doesn't promise that we will receive exactly what we ask for, as Jesus tells us, God will give us what we need. Solomon knew what he would need in order to govern wisely. Do we ask God for what we want, or for what we need? Parents need patience; spouses need a sense of commitment and fidelity; workers need a willingness to put in the effort required to do a good job. We all need something different depending on our circumstances. However, we all need a spirit of justice, compassion, mercy and forgiveness. We need to have God's spirit within us to help us when making difficult decisions. It would be nice to win a lot of money in a lottery, but it would be sinful to waste money that is needed for the rent or for food. It is more productive to ask God to lead us to a job that would enable us to afford the necessities of life. As we shall see in a later passage, Solomon doesn't always use his gifts as God intended. The question for us then is, "How do we use the gifts God has given us?"

In fact, he said here that God had ordained it that way, that those whom he called to preach the Gospel should receive offerings from their hearers on which they could live.

Prayer :🙏 😴 💤 🛖 🛏 😪 🙏 : You, Lord, have called Your servants to many different callings. Some You have given the privilege to be pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and other full-time Christian workers. It is only right that we who benefit from their ministry should be willing to support them financially as we are able. And let us be willing to give for the sake of others who may hear their Biblical message as well. Amen.

Micah's Times And Our Times: 🧉 🥛 🫖 🍶 🍷 🍸 🧉: Times haven't changed much since Micah's time. People still plot and plan how they can get what they want regardless of who they hurt or whether or not it is legal. This can be family members or business owners. It can be anyone. Businesses often take advantage of people who are vulnerable. There was and could still be a food company near me that had several stores in different neighborhoods. They were rated from A to D and the prices ranged from low to high according to the neighborhood. People who lived in areas where the income level was lower paid the highest prices. The company tried to justify their actions by claiming that there was a higher incident of theft and they had to offset the cost. Then there are others who will promise payment for a job once it is completed and then refuse to pay by saying that they didn't like the workmanship. The workers never receive their pay. People have sold property they don't own, and have committed many more crimes than I can mention here. The Lord is well aware of these individuals and they will receive their punishment either in this world as people become aware of what is happening and put them in jail or in the next world when they must stand before the judgment seat of God. No one hides from God. May we keep our thoughts centered on doing what is right and not looking for ways to get away with what we know in our hearts is wrong. In this way we can stand proud before both our fellow human beings and our God.

A Grain Of Mustard Seed: 🧉 🥛 🫖 🍶 🍷 🍸 🧉: Jesus gives us many different parables concerning the kingdom of God. He uses this one, the king's banquet, yeast, and others. Parables were used to teach with stories to help people understand by using things they were familiar with. Aesop did the same with his fables using animals to illustrate the messages he was trying to convey. I often do the same with these devotionals because stories stick in our minds more than a list of facts. So, what can we make of this parable? We are used to hearing the parable that compares faith the size of a mustard seed that can move mountains, but the kingdom of God? The kingdom of God is both here and hereafter. The seed needs to be planted here on earth in the hearts of people. As it grows and matures, it goes from one person to another because it becomes impossible for us to keep it in, our faith overflows into our actions which are noticed by others who want the same thing and so it goes on and on creating the beginnings of the kingdom on earth. We are some of the beneficiaries of the seeds planted in the hearts of the apostles and their followers so many years ago. Hopefully, our children and their children will be the beneficiaries of the seeds of faith that have been planted in us. The wider the circle of faith, the greater the evidence of God's kingdom can be seen on earth. The goal is exactly what we pray for in the Lord's Prayer. "Thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven." The fullness of the kingdom will be achieved in the eternal kingdom of God in heaven. Hopefully, the seeds planted in us and those that we keep sowing in those around us will increase the numbers whom we shall meet in the fullness of the eternal kingdom.

God's Promises: 🧉 🥛 🫖 🍶 🍷 🍸 🧉: In spite of his sins, David remained faithful to Yahweh. When he died, his son Solomon became king. When asked what he wanted from God, he asked for wisdom. However, Solomon would give in to the demands of his wives and built multiple sacrificial altars and shrines to their gods. In spite of the gift of a wise heart, he faltered. This would mark the end of a unified kingdom. God kept his promise, but Solomon failed. What do we ask of God? I remember as a single parent of five trying to balance work, school and helping to care for an ailing parent asking God for patience. Opening the Bible, I read a sentence that I have never been able to find again which told me that God had already given me the requested gift. Oh boy! So, I had to ask myself what I was doing with my gift. I realized that what I really wanted was for everything to go so smoothly that I would have no need to practice patience. The next time I was stuck in the slowest lane in the store or on the highway, I said, "Thank you, Lord, for giving me an opportunity for practicing the gift of patience which you have given me." I repeated this phrase when one of the kids wanted me attention while I was studying or preparing a lesson. I repeated it until I didn't get upset by long lines, red lights or a child wanted my attention. There were times I failed as any one of those children will tell you. However, I keep working on it. Solomon used his gift of wisdom in many ways, but his failure to remain faithful to Yahweh, the one true God was his downfall. May we all seek ways to use our gifts wisely, and remain faithful children of the one God.

Seed : 🧉 🥛 🫖 🍶 🍷 🍸 🧉: When we listen to a familiar story, it's easy to tune out – after all, you know the ending, so why listen. This gospel can be one of those stories. The farmer went out to sow some seed. You know the rest – some fell on the path, the rocks, the thorns and some fell on good soil. So, what's the point for me? In today's church, we are the sowers of seeds. Sometimes with a smile, sometimes with a kind word, and sometimes with an explanation of why we still believe in spite of our own problems and the problems of the world. It can be easy to get discourages when the seed doesn't bear fruit – often within our own families! But, Jesus doesn't tell his apostles to get discouraged if the good news isn't well received, instead he gives us the parable of the sower. The sower didn't expect all of the seed to mature, but that didn't stop him from sowing it. Instead, he just spread a little more so that more might hit the good soil. We shouldn't get discouraged either. Today we are asked to be sowers of the Word of God. What more valuable seed is there? True, some of it will fall on "deaf ears." Some might fall on ears that are open, but too soon wooed away by media that calls us to prefer immediate gratification. But some might just fall on hearts that are crying out for the joy that only God's love and grace can make happen. If they don't receive the seed from us, they may never come to know God and how important a relationship with God can be.

Night Prayer :👨‍🎤 🗿 🪨 🎸 🤘 🥌 👩‍🎤: Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Inspiration : 🚗 🚘 🚔 🏎 🚓 🚕 🚗: Often, people try to hide their sins. They sin behind closed doors or in the actual dark where they think others cannot see. Why? Because sin is shameful. We do not want to expose our sin to the light. Yet, no matter how much effort you place into hiding your plans or sins from the Lord, he still sees your heart. He searches our heart and knows what evil is lurking in the darkness. He will bring what was hidden in the darkness into the light and judge it accordingly.

Prayer :🙏 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🙏 : Dear God, search me and know my ways. Do not allow me to hide anything from you. Whatever secret sin I am harboring, bring it to the light so that I may seek forgiveness and repent. I know you discipline us because you love us. Remove any sin from my life that is separating me from you. Thank you for loving us enough to send your son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sins so that I may have eternal life. In Jesus' name, amen.
