Montagu Winery is situated at the beginning of the Little Karoo, about 200km from Cape Town on Route 62, in the beautiful town of Montagu. Montagu Muskadelboere Koöperasie (name changed in 1992 to present name) was founded on 17 March 1941 under the leadership of Mr DJ Burger Sr – chairman of 15 members. From 800t grapes and 15 members in 1942 the cellar grew to 13 000t grapes and 61 members in 2011. The cellar produces various cultivar red and white wines for the market, including our well known muscadel. The range consist of 3 white wines, 2 red wines, 2 sweet wines (red and white muscadel) and white grape juice. Wines are marketed locally, but can also be delivered to your doorstep. HERITAGE DAY IS BRAAIBROODJIE DAY AT MONTAGU WINERY! 🇿🇦🔥✨

This Thursday, 24 September, the coals will be glowing and the grids will be packed! While our kitchen is getting its little spruce-up, we’re keeping tradition alive the only way South Africans know how—with gourmet braaibroodjies toasted to golden perfection over the fire!

Pair your favourite glass of wine with our Heritage Day line-up:

🍅🧀 The Backyard Standard: The untouchable legend of every South African braai. Cheddar, ripe tomato, sweet onion, and chutney—except here in Montagu, we do things properly with Montagu Foods Peach Chutney (sorry, Mrs. Ball’s!).

🌶️🧀 The Local Hero: Pure valley flavour! A bold kick of Jumping Jackal Candied Jalapeño melted together with La Montanara’s Royal Ashton Cheese.

🥓🍯 The Fancy Pants: Gooey richness meets sweet and savoury decadence—creamy Camembert, syrupy green fig preserve, and salty Parma ham.

🌿🍅 The Caprese: Italian flair on Karoo coals—fresh sliced tomato, melted mozzarella, and fragrant basil pesto.

🔥 Please note: To keep the braai grids turning quickly and ensure every bite is flavour-balanced to perfection, all braaibroodjies are pre-prepped with love and served strictly as described (no swaps, additions, or drop-offs, please!).

At only R50 each, there’s no excuse not to try more than one!

A LITTLE KITCHEN MAKEOVER IN THE WORKS! 🔨🍕☕

We’re making a few exciting changes behind the scenes to streamline things and make life a whole lot easier on the kitchen side!

From Monday, 21 September to Friday, 25 September, our kitchen will be undergoing updates.

Here is what you need to know for your visit:
✅ Still Serving: Our famous, delicious platter alongside our full range of wines, beers and cold drinks!
⚠️ Temporarily Unavailable: Regrettably, there will be no pizzas or hot beverages during this time.

If all goes to plan, we will be back to normal operations from Saturday, 26 September—just in time for the weekend!

MORE THAN A CELLAR, WE’RE A FAMILY! 🍇✨

This past Friday, the fires were lit, the glasses were filled, and the laughter echoed across the tasting room as we hosted our producers and their families for a relaxed braai.

Behind every award-winning bottle of Montagu Winery wine are the dedicated farming families who tend the vineyards through every season. Seeing the kids playing on the lawn, the adults catching up around the coals, and everyone celebrating each other was a wonderful reminder of what truly makes our winery special: we are family.

Because these moments mean so much to us, we’re making it a regular tradition! From now on, once a month, our producers will be gathering right here at the tasting room.

UNPLUGGED THIS SUNDAY! 🕯️🔋✨

Due to a planned town-wide power outage in Montagu, our tasting room will be closed this Sunday, 6 September 2026.

Now, we did look into firing up the generator for the day... but with diesel prices shooting up yet again this week, our generator decided it's also taking Sunday off! 😂💸⛽

Instead of running on fumes, our team will use the downtime to recharge our own batteries so we can come back fully energized and ready to pour your favourites.

❌ Sunday, 6 Sept: Closed (Unplugged & recharging)
✅ Monday, 7 Sept: Re-opening bright and early at 08:00!

Pop in on Friday or Saturday to stock up your wine racks so you don't run out of fuel this weekend. See you on Monday! 👋🍇
