A 19-year-old husband shot and killed his wife inside an Alabama hospital just hours after she gave birth to their first child. Kynath Terry Jr. shot 24-year-old Precious Johnson multiple times at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Homewood on the night of March 1, 2026, before turning the gun on himself. Police described the incident as a domestic-related murder-suicide. The newborn was unharmed.
Terry had recently completed Army National Guard training and married Johnson shortly before the birth. His mother told reporters the couple had been experiencing marital issues but said nothing indicated her son was capable of violence. Johnson had reportedly asked that Terry's family not be present at the hospital during the delivery.
Alabama has no state mandate requiring hospitals to employ security guards. The Alabama Hospital Association called the incident the first of its kind in the state's history and said a security review is underway.
