Our lovely Jacqueline from Urbanflock at Acorn Square in Belvidere, hand-crocheted this beautiful work of art - a gorgeous blanket show-casing a variety of stitches, textures and even some fun pompoms. The very day she brought it into the shop, it sold instantly to Louisa Bester and you can see why... stunning work Jacqueline! Jacqueline is extending an invitation to join her on a fun beginner project!

This crochet workshop will focus on refining your crochet skills and transforming your projects from average to wow! The project is making a beautiful blanket or scarf using single and double crochet stitches only and sizing can easily be adjusted. The first session will focus on the body of the work and the second session will focus on the border. The 2-week gap between sessions should give you enough time to complete the body of your work.

What you will need:

*size 3 light or size 4 medium yarn and approximately 1200 yards / 1100 meters of yarn to complete your project (feel free to use as many colours as you like - Jacqueline will be on-hand to show you how to change colours)
* size 5.5 crochet hook or the size hook that your yarn label suggests.

All yarn and hooks can be purchased from Urbanflock, reopening on Tuesday 01 SEP. You will receive a printed pattern and can enjoy a complimentary Oak Leaf Cafe cappuccino while you work.

Dates: Thursday 10 SEP 09:30-12:30 for the body of the work and Thursday 24 SEP 09:30-12:30 for the border of the work.

Originally derived from a Gordan Ramsay recipe and with our own little twist, Chef Sandy created our much-loved Ultimate Steak Sandwich which is a hands-down ultimate crowd-pleaser!

Once again, without compromising on quality, we flame-grill 200g of basted beef fillet and serve it sliced, juicy and blushing on Maillard's lightly toasted batard artisan bread with dijon mustard, fresh peppery rocket, our own home-made caramelised onions and barbeque sauce.

Chef Sandy and I worked really hard on crafting a breakfast offering that suits customers looking for savoury, sweet, hot or cold breakfasts... also customers looking for banting, super-foods, vegan and gluten-free breakfast options.

Our French Kisses ticks the sweet box! Made with Maillard's artisan batard bread soaked in our free-range egg batter, it's then pan-fried until crispy and golden, drenched in golden syrup and loaded with Charlesford's grilled bacon and a variety of fresh seasonal fruits.

We are told by customers nearly every day at Oak Leaf Cafe, that we make the very best burgers in town!

Our secret is that we don't compromise on quality - we serve our burgers on Maillard's artisanal sesame brioche buns, we flame-grill our pure beef patties from local Charlesford Farm and we make our very own home-made caramelised onions and barbeque sauce.

Choose from our Beef Burger, our Chicken Burger (made with a marinated and flame-grilled free-range chicken breast) or our Bacon, Brie and Avo Burger.

These burgers can be paired with a side of crispy golden chips or a fresh Oak Leaf garden salad. Pop in and try for yourself! We are licenced but we also offer a corkage of R60 per bottle opened.

All of us at Oak Leaf Cafe are deeply mourning the loss of our beloved patrons Dr Johann Viljoen, his gentle partner Charl and their sweet little pug CaraMia, who all passed away in that horrific accident yesterday morning at white bridge.
Johann was my doctor for many years.
We first met at Oak Leaf Cafe when he phoned ahead to book a table with a “very strong chair” as he was “a large man” 😆That was the start of a beautiful relationship…he diagnosed my TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), treated and cared for me throughout my recovery, he treated and cared for my family, he was a mentor in many ways, a loyal customer to Oak Leaf, he guided us through the dark months of COVID, he was a great friend and the absolute best doctor one could ever ask for. I fondly referred to him as my teddy bear because his bear-hugs were the best! 🐻 While he was training to be a doctor, he also studied to be a Chef. He had a huge passion for food and Sandy and I swopped many ideas with him over the years, took guidance and immense wisdom from him and we will sorely miss having them with us. May they rest in peace ❤️🌷

The excitement is real... 2 more sleeps until our Hippie in Heels pop-up boutique at Oak Leaf Cafe on Friday 14 AUG and Saturday 15 AUG 9am-3pm.

Naydene will be show-casing her new clothing range from India, Bali, Turkiye and Morocco - linen trousers, tops, dresses, cotton block printed dresses, silk tops and dresses, shawls, scarves and beaded costume jewellery.

Urbanflock's local handmade garments and Lisa King collection pumps will also be available.

Don't forget to book your mini colour consultation (15min for R350) with local image consultant, colour analyst and stylist, Bianca Heather-Clark, who will be at the pop-up shop on both days 10am-2pm. Our renovation is in progress at Urbanflock. We are breaking through from the old Hello Gorgeous space to make Urbanflock's new space much larger. Lynn plans to incorporate an inviting table with comfy chairs for ladies that enjoy knitting and crocheting in a social environment. She will also be holding her knitting and crochet classes going forward in this new space.

The brand new Urbanflock handmade shop will reopen on Spring Day 1 SEP with gorgeous new handmade creations for summer. Watch this space.
