This is not meant to throw shade on anyone...
And this goes for anyone providing a service ...be it cakes, biscuits, food, gift baskets, desserts...etc
As a caterer, Clients just don't know what goes into getting things done. So here's a little insight.
Any event has a cut off date for a reason. You have to plan and calculate ingredients until it comes out by your ears!
Let's take Eid for example...The day after orders close planning and calculations begin. So now a client comes days later wanting to place an order. Depending on what it is, sometimes you can accommodate them, most times you can't. What they don't understand is, you did your calculations, you bought your ingredients now you need to recalculate and possibly buy more ingredients to accommodate them. You need to work out your baking times in order to give them the freshest cakes possible.
What's funny is when clients say 'I JUST need 1 doz'. That one dozen might mean that I have to make a whole batch of something just for that ONE dozen... Then the rest of that batch goes to waste.
If you have 30 clients and each client orders 1 doz of eclairs, that's 30 doz. That's 360 eclairs! 🫣 And you have 12 other items on your pricelist. So just imagine each of those 30 clients ordering 6 doz across the board. That's over 2000 items that must be made. And each of those 2000 items must be decorated.
Us caterers also have homes and families to see to, especially on Eid. Over the years I've had to learn to say 'no' as much as I want to accommodate everyone, this is the one day I have to say no. For many years my family has come second. Eid mornings were crazy, they would help me finish off platters before going to mosque. That is not what Eid morning should be like.
Alghamdulielah, things run smoother now. You have to have boundaries and you need to stick to them.
So next time you as a client request things at the last minute. Please take a moment to think about all of this. ❤️
