Alpheus Ngoepe, a self-taught artist from Limpopo, South Africa, now based in Johannesburg, is renowned for his vibrant abstract and mixed-media paintings. His artistic journey began in childhood with expressive crayon drawings that helped him navigate mental health challenges.

Inspired by his eco-friendly upbringing, Alpheus channels his experiences into his art, reflecting his deep connection to nature and commitment to mental health and environmental stewardship. He uses unconventional materials like cardboard, a nod to his formative years collecting papers, adding nostalgic depth and emphasizing sustainability.

As his art evolves, Alpheus remains dedicated to using creativity as a catalyst for change, inviting audiences to embrace empathy, mindfulness, and environmental responsibility.

Contra Fair - artist highlight.

Meet Moses Themba Bene, born on April 16th, 1999, and grew up in Daveyton, South Africa. Despite limited formal art training, he discovered his passion for painting in 2020 after leaving a corporate job. Inspired by his older brothers, Nathi, Moses started by customising t-shirts for his neighbours. With support from his brothers, he invested in art supplies in 2021 to pursue his passion further. Recently, in February 2024, he completed a professional workshop to enhance his entrepreneurial skills and advance his art career.

Most recently, in February 2024, Moses graduated from the Professional Practice Workshop provided by the META Foundation and ArtResource. This two-week program equipped him with entrepreneurial skills tailored to complement his artistic practice, paving the way for career advancement in a professional trajectory.
