TAXI DRIVERS DISMISS FAKE TSHWANE SHUTDOWN

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) Gauteng Province has dismissed a fake press statement purporting to be issued by them around the so-called planned shutdown of the City of Tshwane today.

The organisation said an email doing the rounds to the effect was disinformation that sort to sow confusion.

In a strongly worded statement the taxi body said the communique was false and was not issued by SANTACO Provincial Chairperson Mr Johannes Mkonza.

They called on all operators to ignore the fake statement saying it seeks to create panic and chaos in the capital city.

SANTACO confirmed that they have been working with law enforcement and the provincial department of Roads and Transport in an effort to find a solution the problems in the Tshwane CBD and that no one should undermine that process.

“We call on all taxi operators and the public at large to ignore these fake messages. Taxi services will continue uninterrupted in Tshwane and we are happy that police have been deployed in their numbers to ensure that we run a safe public transport system,” the statement added.
