Hi friends,
I know you haven’t heard from me recently. My stubborn back injury has allowed me the space to start doing what I’m really passionate about and that’s “how to move into and cook predominantly plant based food and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Unfortunately, due to my injury, I will no longer be doing the ready-made food. Ill be doing this using online how to videos, online zoom cook alongs, live cooking classes, attending food markets around Jozi and doing kitchen and home consulting services.
When I shifted to a healthy pant based way of life I was surprised at how challenging it was. Not difficult, just a different way of thinking and cooking. My first thought was, “if this is challenging for me, imagine how hard most non chefs must find it?” That got me researching and putting into action what I could do that would make a predominantly plant based lifestyle (cooking and eating) much more pleasurable, easy and healthy.
I’ve been eating PPB in a more dedicated way for about a year. I feel better in most ways and many of my small health niggles have disappeared. I’ve personally found the following benefits:
Improved digestion
Stable blood sugar
Weight loss (and stability)
More vitality and energy
Better sleep
Less joint pain, inflammation and stiffness
Stabilisation of my moods (I still feel a little crazy most of the time but that’s just me )
Better ability to adapt to change (much more about that as we move forward)
These are just a few benefits. One of the most misunderstood concepts about eating healthier is that it is expensive and hard to do. My plan is to show people that PPB cooking is way more cost effective than regular meat heavy cooking. And that’s not even taking into account the savings in medicals bills and missed work because of unnecessary ailments (especially for entrepreneurs).
I believe that meat is an important part of any diet. However, I’ve found it really beneficial to reduce meat to about 10% of my food. And then it’s the very highest quality, free range and ethically farmed
I’ll be teaching these skills and concepts in the following ways
• Online how to videos showing tips and hints to make cooking and eating more healthy, easy to make and excitingly yummy! You will see when I do my videos that I get so excited I’m like a little kid with a new toy. My favourite thing is that now when preparing good food, my body literally has a physical excitement reaction to the nutritious delicious food it’s about to receive.
o How to prepare and plan for success. A little panning goes a long way. Fail to plan, plan to fail. So clichéd yet so true.
• Online Zoom cook alongs. Once people register for a cook along, I’ll send them what ingredients they will need and what preparation they need to do before hand. (Of course, I’ll keep this as simple as possible). We then all cook together and prepare scrumptious food for our impressed families.
o People can also ask any questions they have about cooking, planning and health.
• Live cooking classes and demos – I’m hoping to secure a cooking studio in Craighall Park shortly. This is a fun and entertaining way to learn how to cook while also getting out of the house. Good company, tasty food and some good laughs.
• Food Markets in and around Joburg and surrounding areas. Food markets are popping back up again. With our amazing Johannesburg winters, it’s a wonderful way to spend the day with your family and friends. This gives me the opportunity to share information about healthy cooking while at the same time, offering tasty examples of healthy BUT super tasty PPB recipes.
• Kitchen and home services – Coming into home kitchens and advising what store cupboard essentials to keep, meal planning, how to get the most nutrition, kitchen layout (this is a very important and helpful aspect that all professional chefs make sure to lay out before cooking in any kitchen).
•
My main goal is to demonstrate how to eat more plants and bring more vitality into you and your family’s lives.
We don’t believe any one “diet” fad, trend or cult type eating. There is now a tremendous body of evidence demonstrating how detrimental radical diets can be to both the body and especially to the mind.
Our bodies are truly amazing and naturally move towards balance (homeostasis) if given the right tools. By listening to our bodies (intuitive eating which I’ll definitely go deeply into) one can actually feed the body what it requires and desires. Many studies show a correlation between intuitive eating and weight stabilisation. And goodness gracious me, the mental anguish that we feel from being obsessed with a particular diet and the subsequent guilt or shame we feel if we are not perfect (as no-one is) is so damaging to our mental, emotional and physical bodies.
When researching what lifestyle practices of health offered the most bang for your buck, food was a clear winner. However, there are so many beneficial lifestyle habits which assist us to be our most happy, healthy and vital. We will be periodically sharing these with you.
Above all, we hope to create a community of like-minded positive people which offers support on a local level and inspire us to start and maintain this exciting journey.
It is such a privilege to have worked with so many of you in the last few months. I am eternally grateful for the support and kindness I have experienced. It humbles me and give me hope for humanity knowing there are really good people who desire to make the world a better place. What better to start than your own body and family right?
